It’s 3 years since I began this thread prior to my new hip hop op and it’s still a surprise that we are going strong.
There are many of us on here who can answer most questions and give support and encouragement to anyone setting out on this adventure.
No no need to read all the way through, there are 5000 posts, just ask your question and it will get a friendly and helpful response. Welcome to all.
Bea Fair enough. Just do what you want to do in your own time. Each day, you are getting stronger and more able to cope.
I do not like what I call fairweather friends. I have one who no longer visits me in case she has to switch a kettle on. As you may have gathered, I am very independent.
We cannot help physically but we are here for any small query.

Am watching POPE FRANCIS funeral although not a practicing Roman Catholic anymore, am touched by the celebration of his life and still say my nightly prayers..think I need to say a few more!
Bea I’m wondering if you’ve been so fiercely independent in the past your friends are unaware you need them so much or even what a major op a THR is. Agreed, real friends would call in regardless, but some people can hang back waiting to be asked. I know I find it incredibly difficult to ask for help in most circumstances as I’m guessing you do. One really close friend of mine thought I would be up and about my usual routine within 10 days of my op! Are your friends on email or WhatsApp as a way of keeping in touch? As Charleygirl said, we’re here for you, but there’s nothing like a good old-fashioned physical hug is there? Keep ranting, gal, we’ll listen!
grammargran brought me to tears…maybe you’re right ..one friend who I thought realised the impact of recovery time sent me a message expressing her surprise that I needed to relax more after a small activity…and disrupted sleep patterns
I responded sayin that my brain is still in gear but my body is in neutral …really underestimated how if people have never had any type of surgery, this friend hasn’t so has really no inkling but thought she would be more empathetic…she is otherwise a kind friend who has visited…maybe I appear to be managing??
Bea you are managing but with a struggle. You probably appear fine if anybody visits because we all put on as my mother would have said "your best face" irrespective of how you are actually feeling.
One of my friends thought that if I could put two feet to the ground, I could do almost anything after getting a new knee.
If you want a PJ day, have one. Incidentally, does your other hip need to be replaced, or was that a figment of my imagination?
Afraid so.. the left hip is’as knackered as the right’ is how the GP AND CONSULTANT said on looking at the X-ray and other scans…
So ..we’ll see how next week goes

One of my friends expects me to accompany him on one of his usual walks, it’s a six mile walk across fields and along a narrow river bank path! I haven’t done that walk for at least 20 years, and absolutely no chance now! It’s not because my hips hurt because they don’t, it’s that I have osteoporosis in my spine, have had spinal fractures and can only stand upright for at most half an hour. But he’s a good friend, as your friends are bea and no doubt you present a brave face to them, as I do. But things will get better for you in a few weeks time. I find that my legs ache after what is (for me) a long walk of a mile or so, they’re just not used to walking that far, but will improve if I keep at it 🤞.
6 miles across fields can be daunting if it isn’t relatively flat Redcar. Glad you are doing so well though.
Redcar I would be truthful and say that a walk of six miles is now beyond me because of all that has happened to me. I have never walked six miles in my entire life.
Bea It's such a pity you could not share the bottle of dry white I opened tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed two glasses to go with my lovely meal.
This is the third night of my new duvet, which I really like—a good buy.

Redcar, I can barely walk a mile without getting really puffed, so much so I had a battery of tests at the beginning of this month: bloods, ECG, chest x-ray. I know the blood tests are fine from my NHS app, I can’t really understand the other two, but as my appt at the surgery to discuss the results isn’t until the middle of May, I’m guessing they can’t be that bad & it’s just stamina I’m lacking, fingers crossed!
Charleygirl glad you’re enjoying our new duvet. Thinking of removing the throw from my 4 tog - how different we all are!
grammargran The weight would be too much even for me but I would need four of your duvets on my bed for a decent night's sleep on a cold night.
The sun is out, and it will supposedly be 20 °c, but yesterday, there was a nip in the air. I should really hibernate until mid-June at the earliest.
Such a lovely sunny day that I’ve done another line of washing and already dry😊
Am going to hair salon shortly for a wash/blowdry - it’s been 2wks plus since last done by Dd - so looking forward and taking my pressure cushion with me .. 😊

Is it only me, but it is supposedly 20c here and I am not the warmest bunny around. I sat outside to get vitamin D on my face but it was too cold for me.
In the sun it’s still warm here (,SE) I have just come indoors after having a sit and a potter in the garden. Tee shirt and g and t very nice .
charleygirl six miles is certainly beyond me now, I’ll be happy if I can build up to two or three!
I’ve just taken the 10.5 tog duvet off the bed and put the 7 tog with a fleece blanket on top on the bed!
My 15 tog stays on all year. I only flip it over on the rare occasions we hit 30c +. I certainly need my hwb. Perhaps if we hit 25c next week, it may have a rest for one night.
When I had my knee replaced, I thought hypothermia would set in as I had one blanket and my dressing gown until I was given some more.
Sitting in the garden with a cold white wine, bundled in a fleece down here in the south west. Nasty little wind has whipped up although the sun’s still shining out of a clear blue sky. Perhaps the throw will stay on for another night after all!
grammargran as we say in Scotland, ne'er cast a cloot til May is oot. Online is still forecasting snow, but at least that is unlikely to lie.
The bins are out. I must have my annual shower and then be blissfully wrapped in my new duvet.
Well it’s another lovely day here in this part of the country.
I hope those who can will step out for a walk, be it short or long, and enjoy the sunshine people.
I might switch the heating off…

Here I am, back again! Nice to see familiar names.
I am having right THR on Thursday, having had to wait until I finished course of steroids in March. They were for a lung problem. So that will be 1 knee and 2 hips! Just want to get my mobility back!
