It’s 3 years since I began this thread prior to my new hip hop op and it’s still a surprise that we are going strong.
There are many of us on here who can answer most questions and give support and encouragement to anyone setting out on this adventure.
No no need to read all the way through, there are 5000 posts, just ask your question and it will get a friendly and helpful response. Welcome to all.

I am sure you can change the date if it falls when you are away.
Assume you have had an X-ray on your knee?
Not long til Tuesday, ask your questions then. I am sure they can advise.

MayBee70 Fri 25-Jul-25 13:24:32

I couldn’t see the x Ray. The hospital just send a report of what showed up on the x Ray which I need to copy to show the physiotherapist. I’ve also asked for some blood tests as I haven’t had any sort of health check for ten years.

bea. How was your doctors appointment on Tuesday? Have I missed an update?
I hope the physician was able to shed some light on why you’re struggling!

Bea65 Sat 26-Jul-25 09:06:04

Redcar the PA didn’t examine me …she did listen and requested full blood work..which happened the very next day and should receive results on ?Monday
She tried to book me in with female GP re groin pain but was unable as, both female GPs on AL and now they have a new system whereby you cannot book ahead of more than 2wks - this might be good for surgery holidays/staff but not great for patients 🙃…she then suggested I ring on a morning 😡@0830 if pain became more severe …
Will wait till
Monday results and physically go to surgery to get them 🤞🏻

Morning all! I hope all those hips and knees are behaving?
It is 7 months since my TKR and apart from aching when I climb stairs or stand for a long time it is very good. I have been achieving more in the garden, cutting the grass, weeding etc.
Suddenly my knee began to be more painful yesterday and by the evening my whole leg was swollen. The calf and shin are still bigger than normal this morning and tender. What have I done??

Jaxjacky Thu 31-Jul-25 07:45:29

Nannytopsy I would call 111 in case it’s a DVT, in which case you need treatment pronto.
Excuse me crashing this thread.

Charleygirl5 Thu 31-Jul-25 08:23:13

I agree, I do not want to distress you but this must be sorted, pronto.

Nannytopsy Thu 31-Jul-25 13:18:20

Thank you for your replies, which confirmed my suspicions. I have an appointment this afternoon and will go hoping I am making a fuss about nothing!

grammargran Thu 31-Jul-25 13:35:50

Please, please let us know how you get on, Nannytopsy otherwise we shall sorry! Fingers crossed for you!

grammargran Thu 31-Jul-25 13:52:11

“Otherwise we shall worry”!!!!

Nannytopsy Thu 31-Jul-25 18:46:50

I have been seen and it’s a possible DVT but not clear. I have anticoagulants, omeprazole and a scan booked for Tuesday. They agreed with me that things are different and so should be investigated.
Thank you for your concern everyone.

silverlining48 Thu 31-Jul-25 18:55:43

Glad you have meds and a Scan booked on Tuesday but any worries over the weekend ring 111.

Jaxjacky Thu 31-Jul-25 18:56:51

Thanks Nannytopsy for letting us know.

Charleygirl5 Thu 31-Jul-25 18:58:39

Such a pity the weekend intervenes but please do not forget there is A&E if you are desperate. Better to be safe than sorry. Your surgery is on the ball, good to hear.

Nannytopsy Thu 31-Jul-25 19:50:31

Yes she was a very good nurse practitioner who used to work in DVT department in the hospital. I was told to go back or go to A&E if necessary.

grammargran Thu 31-Jul-25 21:25:56

Thanks for letting us know Nannytopsy - hope all's well over the weekend.

Hi. Thank you for this amazing thread. It has given me so much useful info.
I had a hip replacement two days ago and and they’ve put me on Celecoxib anti-inflamitaries twice a day. I also was given Omeprazole to take once a day to protect my stomach. I was sure the nurse told me to take the omeprazole only at night but when I checked the official leaflet it said to take in the morning. Does anyone have any advice please?

Redcar Sat 02-Aug-25 20:35:56

silvergirl when I was prescribed omeprazole I was told to take it first thing in the morning.
My doctor prescribed Celecoxib and I found it very effective.
I hope your recovery goes well, don’t try to do too much too soon.

Silvergirl Sat 02-Aug-25 20:55:31

Thank you so much for this Redcar. I will go with mornings as the leaflet says. I must have misheard the nurse due to all the drugs etc.

Charleygirl5 Sat 02-Aug-25 21:25:25

If you have a question, no matter how trivial, please just ask. There is a wealth of knowledge here and we have had knees and/or hips replaced, so been there, done it and got the T shirt.

silverlining48 Sun 03-Aug-25 10:10:37

Welcome silver girl and congratulations on your new hip. It might be awkward for the first couple of weeks but will be surprised how quickly you improve.
Dint hesitate to post any questions you will most certainly have, there is always someone here happy to help.

Bea65 Sun 03-Aug-25 12:25:11

Had a call from surgery re results from post op blood work..they said i need follow up and have arranged GP appt this wednesday...i did look at the results online in my NHS account and a few results say deficient in Vit B12, folate? and serum..and have low white/red blood cell counts
So is this why I feel worse past few weeks with fatigue and literally no energy and can't clean housegrin
Am looking forward to knowing more as these results confuse me..
Happy Sunday

Charleygirl5 Sun 03-Aug-25 13:02:03

Sorry I have been retired for nearly 25 years so I can no longer remember. Wait until you see your GP but that is a very likely cause.

MayBee70 Tue 05-Aug-25 16:04:34

My partner went to pick up his repeat prescription from our surgery and also pick up the prescription the doctor wrote out for me two weeks ago. The dispensary wasn’t open although the website says it is open every afternoon from 2pm.On top of that my prescription hadn’t been dispensed and they had to do it there and then. I know I’ve complained about this before but prescriptions are no longer double checked and, having worked there myself I know for a fact that mistakes can be made. I can’t believe how badly managed the surgery now is.

Nannytopsy Tue 05-Aug-25 21:28:30

Maybe that’s hard.
I have been checked for my possible DVT and given the all clear - phew. As it didn’t get worse at the weekend, I began to think it was ok. Thank you all for your concern.
