Heavy fall- affected heart stents?

3 stents fitted 2 years ago. Fell headlong after stumbling on a speed bump in a car park a few days ago. My son and husband lifted me up and no apparent damage done. Since then a Hugh black bruise has appeared on my left thigh and bad pains in left side of chest. Could a heavy fall affect stents? I’m hoping it’s bruising to my ribs- that’s what my son says. Anyone any knowledge about this?

Contact your GP - put your mind at rest.

Thx Wavemark2 . He will tell me to go to A&E. Last 2 times I was there for 22hrs each time.
I just hoped someone would say yr stents couldn’t be affected by a fall! Thx for replying with common sense.

Or you could try the small injuries clinic - a lot less wait.

Yes good idea. If no improvement tomorrow I will definitely go to Minor injuries. Thx so much.

Brandygran I'm not a doctor but I hope this reassures you a bit - my OH had 3 stents implanted 15 years ago. I remember at the time thinking how tiny they are. I also remember the doctors saying how they become part of the artery.

After 2 years, I'd be very surprised if a fall could dislodge your stents. If you're still in pain tomorrow it would be a good idea to ask a medical professional. Do let us know how you get on smile

Or ring 111 for advice

Thx Retread. That’s what I wanted reassurance about. Pain no worse and maybe a bit less. My chest hurts when I cough, blow nose and try to get out of a chair. Still in two minds about going to minor injuries 🤦🏼. Waiting times and hard seat from many experiences very off putting !

I’m a youthful lady of 80 as of last week and am disappointed that I tripped and fell. That only happens to old people!!!!

Ring 111

There is bound to be internal bruising after a fall- and judging by the number of people who have stents at our age I would think they may have warned you about falling when you had them put in...?

Our minor injuries are not too bad. Take a book and relax.

TBH it sounds like bruising to me, but I am not a doctor so what do I know?

The Stent is inside your Coronary Arteries they will be fine. They surround your Heart to supply the blood to the Heart as its a "Muscle"
Sounds like it's probably your Ribs.
I'm a very very recently(from 1st April) retired Cardiac Physiologist, I have worked for years in the Cath Lab.
They will be okay, take some anti inflammatory, if you can (not if your on Anticoagulant tho) but suggest you seek advice if it doesn't get better.
Take care

Visgirl you have done your good deed for the day! Thankyou so much for your wise well informed words. Am resting and intend to do so until much improved. I will seek help if no better. Thankyou again.

No “keeping quiet” no advice about not falling when stents were inserted.
Weird how had no pain after it happened. I actually didn’t expect a speed bump to be in a car park but probably to deter joyriders at night time.

You have to go to A&E and have it checked. I have a cardiac problem and dithered about for a couple of days not feeling good recently, then 111 told me to go to A&E. Turns out it was good that I went and you must too. Hopefully, everything is fine but they have the knowledge and equipment to either give you reassurance or have the wherewithal to put things right. Good luck.

One week later am feeling much better. Still sore but tolerable. My beautiful bruises are a lovely shade of purple!
Much gratitude to all of you brilliant grans who took time to reply. Reassurance was wonderful. You have no idea how you changed my mood and mindset. Xxx

Stents are not affected by falls they’re grown into your artery , it sounds as though you’re thoroughly bruised, I suspect you may be on a blood thinner which just enhances the bruising, it’ll all heal in time , pleased you’re improving,
