Sorry you’re still so unwell. I’m on my 4th day of banging, viral headaches but seem to have the coughing under control at last.
I met up with an old friend 2 days after she arrived here and she had a nasty cough and cold. She felt she’d got cold after swimming. Anyway, couldn’t promise to see us again before she went home unless she felt loads better.

Yesterday she contacted me to say, even in all this heat, she’d been unable to leave her holiday home as she felt too unwell. Three days previously I too felt so rotten, I took a Covid test which was instantly positive. She’d blessed me with the gift of Covid from the ‘plane and thought it was the worst ‘cold’ possible.

Any kind of virus is not something to be taken lightly and if you feel rough, for however long, it’s because your body is trying to tell you something.
Why not get yourself checked Cyberbug - you don’t want to risk Pneumonia?
Get well soon the Lesters

Flu can knock the stuffing out of a person. I’ve had it a few times in the past and, as well as a dreadful cough, had night sweats and had to change my nightclothes twice a night. I thought it would never end and I actually don’t think I recovered fully for about 3 months. I had no appetite or energy whatsoever.

I'm wondering if you have heard of RSV (
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). I hadn't until I was telling a friend about my symptoms - throat that felt as though I'd swallowed hedgehogs,, no appetite, very tired, coughing etc. It was only when I was telling her that she said she recognised the symptoms as she had been offered a vaccination for it by her GP, and she had been told what the symptoms were. Apparently it was offered to people up to the age 65 ( I think) so I was too old anyway.
I'd never heard of it and have never read anything about it but it was really debilitating for weeks, and took me several months to get over the worst.

Hope your're feeling better soon.
Not flu for me but shingles - I cannot believe how much it's wiped me out!

Sorry to hear you've got Shingles. I had it last October and haven't really got over it yet. sad

My daughter had something like this. Covid tests were negative but weeks later she was still feeling awful. Her doctor seems to think it was Covid as some of the variants do not show on the tests.

Sorry you’re feeling so poorly. My daughter and I both had flu at the same time two summers ago. I’ve never felt so ill and I have the jab every year. It left my daughter with some lung damage as we both had really nasty chest infections with it. Take it easy it takes a long time to recover completely

Thank you ladies, agree it's probably not a mild illness, just didn't expect it to be so bad tbh - haven't eaten properly in all that time either, just gone right off food (probably a good thing for me) but struggling to even think of something I could fancy eating - oh well, in the grand scheme of things not a disaster but thanks for your thoughts, now going to try another cup of tea and see if I can finish it

Have tested? Covid is going round at the moment. My husband & I both had it two weeks ago- tired & stiff but hardly any other symptoms

Thank you Gbatty.

Flat lemonade is good.

TBH Cyberbug123, I wouldn’t call proper flu a mild illness, and I dare say anyone who’s had it would say the same. Even after you feel a lot better it can knock your stuffing right out for 3 weeks. I know it did with me - and I was a lot younger than I am now!
Do take it very easy, plenty of rest and warm fluids, definitely don’t push yourself before you really feel ready.

I do hope you’ll feel a lot better soon.

I think that social isolating ,wearing masks and using hand sanitising lotions during Covid has compromised our natural immunity .
I know so many people who are complaining about feeling really ill .
Whatever I had last year has left me weak and lacking in energy .
I don't know what the answer is .
I would cut down on dairy and heavy meat and concentrate on a healthy light diet with lots of freshly made soups and fruit juices and take vit c plus zinc and echinacea .
Plus gentle exercise .
Get Well soon .

Kitty, that's rotten that you succumbed too. My sympathy

kittylester Wed 11-Jun-25 11:48:09

Are you sure it's flu and not covid. DH and I have covid but it is very flu like especially the headache.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 11-Jun-25 11:44:25

A good dose of flu usually lasts 3 weeks.

It is horrible, and it takes ages to fully recover.

Smileless2012 Wed 11-Jun-25 11:42:22

Our neighbours have been poorly for well over two weeks CyberBug so you're not alone. I hope you begin to feel better soon flowers.

Has anyone else come down with the flu in recent weeks? Can't believe how debilitating it's been. Can barely get myself out of bed never mind do anything else. Had the flu jab last year and don't know why but thought it would offer better protection, bu then maybe I expect too much. The headaches and coughing are particularly bad and I'm a bit down at how a relatively 'minor' illness can be so hard. There just doesn't seem to be an end to it.
