Agree with the 'willpower' but in later years losing weight became much much more difficult than it used to be probably whole combination of things like age, hormonal changes etc...

Mounjaro was like a kick starter for my body but if you can do without then of course don't.

Remembering Covid, many who died had what was called co-morbidities. A high percentage of those co-morbidities was obesity. Obesity is not aways a simple case of over eating, as we can read about up-thread.
If the jag really helps, without harming, and will save money for the NHS in the long term, then why not?

A few years ago our daughter lost four and a half stone, by herself with no jabs, operations, pills, slimming clubs or fad diets, and not much exercise. It was sheer willpower. It can be done. I could do with losing a few pounds myself but I don't have the willpower nor the inclination at my age.

I've been taking Mounjaro for 6 months - developed specifically for weight loss unlike Ozempic / Wegovy which was for people with diabetes.

It's not the magic lazy option but combined with reasonably sensible diet and some exercise it has turbo charged my weight loss.

Important if bought online that it's from legit registered pharmacies - some really good deals if you know where to look but definitely avoid the high street names.

Well, I've lost 3lbs in a week, never managed that on slimming world
No interest in alcohol, crisps or cheese, all of which I loved before.

I need to do this to improve my mobility and general health.

I attended hospital about joint problems last week and both Doctor and Consultant were very supportive about me trying WLI, as is my physio.

Obesity has been costing the NHS millions for a lot of years.
The cost of oversized reinforced beds it’s growing year on year.
It’s exactly the same with oversized scanners.
I was in hospital in 2023 where there was a lady who was too big to stay in a bed. She was on a huge blow up bed on the floor.
If anything is going to bring the NHS to its knees, it’s going to be obesity with all the health problems it brings with it.

I know loads of people on them atm
All of them are losing a significant amount of weight

I started mine last Sunday, lost 2lbs so happy with that.
Only another 2st 5lbs to go lol

I had a hospital appointment in the week, sat in clinic for quite a while, was sent to xray twice. I was shocked at how many overweight people were in both waiting areas. There were a row of oversized chairs in xray waiting area and some of the people could hardly fit in them.

Obesity related problems must be causing the NHS a fortune.

My friend has been on the jabs privately for about 6 months and has lost c 4 stone. She says she wants to lose another 4 as she was seriously overweight and unhappy.
She says it costs her about £200 a month but she is so much happier and has a waist!
She's in her 50s and hasn't always been overweight but after an abusive marriage and years of single parenting the pounds have piled on.

She can just about afford the jabs but would prefer to have them on the NHS.

When I had my cataract operation a week ago, I noticed almost all the others waiting had type 2 diabetes, were somewhat overweight and were younger than me. One young woman was too large to fit into the chair.

The more people use them, the more cases of the serious side effects will emerge. I know two people who have recently had pancreatitis - a potentially fatal complication. I don’t know for sure that they both were using Mounjaro but one definitely was. Neither met the eligibility criteria but presumably got it online.

I think what a lot of people are saying though, is that the idea of people doing what your friend says just doesn’t add up. They wouldn’t lose weight if they ate burgers.

The way the jabs work is to suppress the appetite, so they wouldn’t want to eat them anyway, but if they managed to override that they would not lose weight, so what would they be boasting about?

My best friend works in an office with a number of women paying out quite a bit for these injections and going out midday for MacDonalds and boasting about how they can eat what they want now

Why bother to comment on this thread if it being started offends you so much?

As to my comment about the women buying the jabs and then eating MacDs of course I know that’s not how it’s meant to be used but some are using it that way and it’s wrong

I think it’s great that people can now get help if they are very overweight and been trying themselves but I don’t agree with it been bought online or in pharmacies without complete medical knowledge and a GP s support
For very overweight people or diabetics using these with a
GP s full monitoring I think they are a very worthwhile intervention but I don’t agree with every Joe soap buying them and perhaps using them incorrectly

I want to make it quite clear I am NOT judgemental or unsympathetic to overweight people I just am judgemental about sone people who are using these jabs so thoughtlessly and using them as a quick fix

It you are what you eat, how comes my DH eats bread, cheese, chips, nuts, cakes, biscuits every day to excess and is still skinny

An American couple we cruised with last year were both using it. He had (looking at his before and after pictures) lost so much weight he was unrecognisable.
She, not so drastic an effect, but they were both happy about using it.
He seemed to be tired all the time though, sitting down frequently when we were out on tours, rest every afternoon and early to bed.
DD is hoping to be prescribed it, because a side-effect of her other medication is weight gain despite the fact that she eats sensibly and swims daily.

Disturbingly apparently 10 people have died from organ failure after having these jabs. Genetics are being looked at as a possible connection. There is always someone affected adversely by any medication.

That what it sounds like to me. An incredibly ignorant and judgemental post - sounds like the poster is well named! Many medical conditions cause weight gain - as do many medications. A combination of both can make it extremely difficult to lose weight.

I lost 2.5stone in 9 months following slimming world in 2014/2015.

Ten years on my health/mobility problems (and possibly the medication im on) mean Im struggling to reduce my weight
as I did before.

I'm not expecting a miracle cure with this injection (which I'm paying for myself) I just desperately need some help so I can get down to a healthier BMI and improve my mobility.

Sad there are so many judgemental folk on here.

Obesity is costing the NHS a fortune. To have a BMI of 40 and qualify for this drug on NHS means a person needs help not criticism

How rude and ill informed!

We've both had a text from the surgery to say asking us people not to contact them re these jabs, not that we need them. They said it will take time to work through giving them in a fair and responsible way.
A GP on TV yesterday said anyone who qualifies will be contacted.
