Apparently nonenal is more common in men than women. It often starts in middle age and men's hair can be the main problem aggravated by sweat and grease.

Yes, I sometimes have to nudge my husband towards the shower. I did buy some of this soap for him but he obviously doesn't use it on his hair so not much use really.

Well, it's not a rude word but spelt with a 'c' it is slang for poo.

I love them .
I notice that Amazon sell them as dried fruit .They must be delicious.

I was looking at my silk dyes earlier and was thinking of a pomegranate colour !
Lona - some people smell unpleasant due to their consumption of red meat and onions!
Eating citrus fruits and leafy vegetables plus drinking herb teas is said to alleviate it .

Pinkcosmos - you mentioned "I don't need it yet" but how do you know? With odours I think the last to know is often the source. I get on the bus sometimes during the day and am sure some of the very clean looking smartly dressed passengers don't know.
Same could be said for young guys in the morning in shops and offices- um hello? It's the morning fella - no excuse.

My mum always said that keeping babies smelling gorgeous and in clean clothes was important as a way of ensuring we want to continue to nurture them, no matter what they “present” us with😷 Let’s face it the alternative could be off putting.
Well while they are growing up obviously adults are on the downward curve. Blame those post menopausal hormonal changes in women also.

Esmay I thought the soap mentioned was Persimmon. That’s a fruit I’ve never tried.
I really think though that rarely if ever washed clothing does give the whole house and not just the body that fusty smell.
If you live alone and have no one to impress anymore you can become “nose blind” or just accustomed to the gunge level.

Many of my mums age group never attempted to wash their hair and had regular visits to the local hairdressers no matter what else was going on. Once ill health and apathy sets in though….
I still love the smell of a quality cologne though and lavender -real lavender is the thing imo, along with fresh line dried cotton sheets and towels on a hot summers night🫠

I suffered from this unpleasant smell a few years ago. It was pungent and I was very aware of it despite rigorous washing, clean clothes and using the Japanese soap. The soap made no difference and I tried lots of different antiperspirants.
However, it went away after about nine months thank goodness, and hasn't returned.
I was in my early 70s.

I remember a survey done about frequency of washing and the UK came out very badly.

Japanese people are famously not smelly as they have a shower and a bath daily. They shower before their bath.

There is a religious aspect to bathing as a purifying ritual in Japan which is also part of the idea of the purified sacred and the miasmic or polluted profane in Ancient Greece.

Islam too has ritualistic washing practices before prayer.

This goes against the western Christian idea of covering up your shameful and sinful body or of mortification of the flesh.

Two baths were allowed in a Christian lifetime - once when born and then again after death.

It’s really medieval to be so filthy. You won’t fall apart from washing everyday!

No washing machines and certainly no dryers in those days. Most washing was done by hand so people did hang up and air their clothes.

Yes it's a real thing, OH is very clean but in hot weather I notice a rather unpleasant smell. I bought him some of these soaps and since then there's not been an issue. It's all about our chemistry as I even smell sweet in hot weather (I think!). It's really common apparently but often those who have it don't notice it.

Lidl produce really cheap scents , which I liberally spray all over myself after a bath .
They are cheaper than Avon .
I also recommend Agua Lavanda Puig ,which is available on Amazon .It used to be cheap ,now it's zoomed up in price .

Lollin - I really sympathise with you if bad smells make you sick.
It's so embarrassing!
I've had to pretend that I've got gastric flu before now .
I still visit one of my mother's old friends and fortunately we aren't in a confined space .
Just looking at her lank greasy hair makes me feel nauseated .
One thing that the family always got me to do -test smell all meat and fish!

That should be dogs, not drugs!!

My grandmother’s small house only had one cold tap in the scullery and as far as I know she never had a bath in her 93 years, but she strip washed every day at her sink and I recall she always smelled very nice. No deodorant in those times.

There really isn’t a need to shower or bath every day if people wash themselves properly every day. Once a week used to be the norm for most people. Usually on Sundays when underwear and clothing were changed ready for the next week.

I find most people really smell bad. Young or old! And if they have dogs or cats at home houses and cars smell really bad too.

The problem I think is that people don’t wash their hair or clothes often enough.

Very often people wear an outfit for going out and use perfume, then hang it up for the next time, and by the next time the oils which have transferred from the skin have oxidised and the garment smells awfully stale and the perfume is musty.

Washing hair often can be difficult for some so they just comb it or brush it, not realising that the scalp really smells rancid, and they need a more manageable style, and a more citrus based shampoo for more frequent washing.

animal breath really smells if they have dried food rather than offal or meat, and aren’t adequately hydrated. Drugs need regular bathing too, and houses need to be aired out everyday. Open all those windows wide for an hour in the morning!

Hilarious the bar of soap if it’s true, what does the old person smell like does anyone know?

I’ve have been aware of this for decades and so am grateful for this being raised - it is enlightening. We can all smell without realising it, I had to drill into my own, to open their windows daily! Like esmay I too have always ‘suffered’ because I have a strong sense of smell. I’m hoping I keep the possibility of developing that old person smell away.

Basically it is the smell of our body breaking down.

And Since more people are living longer this means that with good fortune all the current pubescent kids with there sickly Lynx drenched armpits (not just armpits in fact now) and
Impulse Body Sprays etc will have longer to experience this phenomenon for themselves.

Perhaps they’ll have come up with a solution by then eh😧

My d-i-l suggested that I stopped using lavender washing capsules because they gave off “old lady vibes”.
I must admit my Nan always smelt of Yardley lavender!.
Shame though cause I quite liked it.

We've touched on this subject before.
I've been in the car with a couple of my mum's old friends and actually felt as though I was going to throw up .
They stank .
I found out that they didn't consider a daily bath or shower essential and rarely washed their knitwear .
Hair shampooing only seemed to happen at the hairdressers
Unfortunately for me the slightest off smell has a dramatic effect on me !
Pomegranate soap isn't cheap .
I used lavender soap and cologne on my mum and she always smelt very nice .

Great - not! Not some other aspect of my body that might get more troublesome and expensive to deal with as I get older....

.....and how would I even know (given that most of my sense of smell went during Covid and I've not got it back yet.....who knows when that will be?).
