Pinkcosmos you might understand better when you are as old as some of us on here are.

I'm 68 - not in the first flush of youth exactly hmm

Good old mumsnet, When they are grans they may have more empathy. Poor mother.
As for fanny soap, its my understanding that soap should never be used on or in, that part of the body.
What a charming daughter.

you've made me laugh...fanny soap...but you're absolutely correct..no soap near fanny/suzie/..whatever you call it!!

Persimmon soap is called Fanny Soap according to GeorgesGran 😁

Ps sometimes losing your sense of smell might be a blessing, not a curse!
I'm just off to sniff DH.

😂

I hope to goodness my DD or DIL don't give me any Fanny soap.
Although one gave me lavender cosmetics and another lemon. Are they trying to tell me something?

Just women then, no old man smell?

I did put old person smell in the heading and in the text

This part of my post was actually a quote I found online - 'The skin has antioxidant defences which naturally weaken with age. This antioxidant protection disrupts the effect of the oxidation of lipid acids on the skin’s surface. As it declines, it can no longer prevent the oxidation process, so the acids that are broken down create a chemical called 2-nonenal or old lady smell'.

I can't understand why some Gransnetters are so touchy. Personally, I was happy to learn about persimmon soap. I don't need it at the moment but am glad to know for the future.

There’ve been several threads about this over the years….

This is from 2020 smile

I did put persimmon in the search bar before I posted and nothing came up.

I was reading a post on Mumsnet yesterday. It was by a woman who had her elderly mother living with her. The mother had her own rooms. The daughter was complaining about the 'old lady' smell eminating from her rooms.

Apparently, the official name for old person smell is nonenal. It was identified by the Japanese.

The skin has antioxidant defences which naturally weaken with age. This antioxidant protection disrupts the effect of the oxidation of lipid acids on the skin’s surface. As it declines, it can no longer prevent the oxidation process, so the acids that are broken down create a chemical called 2-nonenal or old lady smell.

Not all old people will have the smell.

Apparently, persimmon soap can help to eliminate the smell. You can buy it quite cheaply on Amazon

I was not aware of this but thought it would be useful to pass on to Gransnetters.

No offence intended smile
