Current virus

I came come down with what I think is a virus that I have heard is currently‘On-The-Go’. That was Monday this week so early days yet.

How have GN’s coped with this? I know it sounds trivial with what I see some posting on here are living with but I’m usually pretty healthy and ‘fair scunnered’ at catching this. Am 71 live alone but my sister is nearby and brought me fresh milk today. I’m usually reasonably active and healthy.

Things were bad in the Tuesday as I attended a hospital appointment long planned. At this stage just felt had upset tum and mild headache.

Walking uphill back to car I had to stop 3 times in a short period and thought I would collapse. Got to car though and made it home ok. I felt quite safe once seated and when driving

Symptoms are fatigue, dizziness/lightheadedness on exertion ie climbing the stairs, muscle aches, headaches,( not as bad as in first 24 hours ), stomach upset at whatever I try to eat but have tried to keep to plain food , toast ( I did add some butter as it was my first food in 36 hours). A few spoonfuls of home made lentil soup, quarter of unbuttered cinnamon bagel. Everything seems to upset my stomach tho doesn’t cause any V or D.

I realise I need to eat something. I’m drinking very dilute blackcurrant juice and have managed tea with milk. The thing is it all makes me feel ‘like I have a tummy upset’. Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

I’ve tried the NHS app but nothing seems to fit. You only have to choose one symptom and mine cover more than one. And I didn’t think I was bad enough to call 111.

This will probably go in time . Just needed some food/coping advice as am sure I’m not the only one who has had similar or is feeling like this now.

I went down with what I thought was flu a week ago. I assumed I caught it at the opticians a few days before. Then hubby came down with it. We were sitting trying to eat some lunch the other day and both commented oh how nothing tastes right. Hubby did a COVID test and it was positive, mine was as well. We were shocked. We still feel wiped out. Be careful everyone.

My husband was transferred from one community hospital to another 3 weeks ago and it wasn’t until I visited him at the new one and found the nurses masked that I found out they’d had cases of Covid at the previous one. Thought they might have mentioned it with all those elderly people. Also our friends on holiday in the uk both came back with Covid. I bought some new tests earlier this year as nhs ones out of date now! It’s definitely still out and keeps changing as viruses do.

You are never not ill enough not to call 111. They are there to help and advise on just those things that are very minor and not worth bothering the surgery with as well as more serious things.

If you find yourself in this situation again ring 111

I would. We had to race out to buy one.
Went red like a rocket.

harrigran Fri 05-Sept-25 14:20:02

I had horrible symptoms like that and decided to do a covid test, it was negative. I still have a sore throat after about three weeks and the nausea is only just easing.

Jojo1950 Fri 05-Sept-25 14:18:29

A month ago I had covid. Ended up in hospital for 3 weeks. So very poorly.
Take care all.

Missiseff Fri 05-Sept-25 14:05:57

I tested positive for Covid on tuesday, have felt so ill. Every muscle and bone hurts, even my teeth. Had a stinking cold and cough with it too, thankfully no nausea but very tired

Hi. I'm sorry so many of you have been coping with viruses, from Covid (which is spiking in the US, just when Really Freaking ... can't think of a k word for terrifying... makes it hard to find vaccines without the old CDC's imprimature ) to the garden variety 7-10 day viruses. ...I just got over 2 months of off and on vertigo, and lost 15 pounds because I could not eat. ...A friend sent me the Serenity Prayer because I'd never seen the entire thing. "Hardships as a pathway to peace" really helped me. Look it up and see if it helps you? Feel better soon!

When I have a big flare up of stomach problems, which I do frequently, I find once I've got over the initial few days that most of the pain is in fact hunger pain and the best thing is to go back to eating a normal meal, it's hard but it usually seems to work.

hail2thequeenbaby Fri 05-Sept-25 13:52:28

Sorry you're all feeling poorly, but relieved to read it too! I've had terrible fatigue, leg muscle aches and breathlessness and thought it was late onset side effects from chemo/radiotherapy year. I'm pretty sure it's just a weird bug now, so am going for a walk round the block to see if I'm any better today!

So this ginger boy is benefiting from the lurgy by having my company non stop.
I’m just annoyed that it’s such a great dry sunny gardening day wasted.

Seems like so many have this virus which isn’t good but it was reassuring for me to see the responses as you always feel as if you are the only one. I haven’t heard of one closer acquaintance/friend who has it yet. Not that I’d wish it on anyone.

This is a good reminder to check the expiry dates of any test kits. I've just looked at mine and they are waaay past expiry so I'll replace them as it's good to have a kit available immediately you think you might have a problem.

I’ve been trying to shake off something like this for just over a week now. Not long I know but there are things I want to attend next week.
It began with a headache then jelly legs then waking up with a very runny nose and sneezing for England. Today is the first day I haven’t felt light headed.
All I’ve wanted to eat and drink is tea and toast.
It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one.

Aldom Fri 05-Sept-25 10:59:19

Covid will never go away. It will always be with us in it's many and varied forms.

Maremia Fri 05-Sept-25 10:56:09

So it didn't really ever go away?

Sparklefizz Fri 05-Sept-25 10:52:06

I hope everyone soon feels better. flowers

henetha Fri 05-Sept-25 10:40:31

Oh, good luck with that. Hope it goes well. And hope that the bug clears up very soon. smile
I think I will get some new covid test kits.

Aldom Fri 05-Sept-25 10:37:56

Henetha I recently threw out kits which were close to expiry date. I did once try one test that was rather old and it didn't react. Bought new kit and tested VERY positive.
Hope you too feel better soon and everyone else with the bug.
I could do without it at the moment as I'm preparing for moving house.

henetha Fri 05-Sept-25 10:33:22

I had a couple in hand, Aldom, dated to expire next month. Do they lose their capacity to detect Covid as the nearly reach the expiry date? Just a thought.
I hope you feel better soon, Aldom, and everyone not feeling well.

Aldom Fri 05-Sept-25 10:29:47

Yes, Henetha I've also been thinking is it Covid? But from what everyone is saying, probably not.
I'll buy a testing kit later today just in case.

henetha Fri 05-Sept-25 10:26:35

That's what I thought, Sparklefizz. I was convinced I had Covid, until the test proved negative. So I'm puzzled.

Aldom Fri 05-Sept-25 10:25:50

Sorry others are feeling yuck.... but it is reassuring to know others feel off colour, with similar symptoms.
When it happened to me on Tuesday.... so sudden, at first I wondered if I was having a heart attack.

Sparklefizz Fri 05-Sept-25 10:23:33

Covid is definitely doing the rounds again. My daughter's a teacher - she has got it and so have several of the other teachers (they have all tested) and dozens of the students.

The headmaster told the staff to continue going to work, wearing a mask at all times.

Covid has not gone away.

henetha Fri 05-Sept-25 10:19:02

I think a bug has invaded me too. I'm feeling unwell, achy, dizzy and hot, with a funny tummy and drippy nose. I have done a Covid test but its definitely negative.
So there is a bug doing the rounds, I assume.
Just got to push on through and hope it's better soon.

Jaxjacky Fri 05-Sept-25 10:14:57

MrJ had a similar virus, GP said there’s lots about, it lasted over a week, covid tested negative.
