Please be aware my immunologist told me not to take Glucosamine because I have a shellfish allergy, it's always worth checking what you can and can't take if you have an allergy

... meant to say sorry 😊 Cbd balm really helps. ( not the one for muscles)

Healthspan make glucosamine supplements that are free of shellfish allergens, this is from their website:

"Glucosamine tablets are generally made using prawn/crustacean shells, but we pioneered shellfish−free, vegan glucosamine HCl, which we call Optiflex®, made from a sustainable and natural corn−based source."

Knitty Nannie, could you tell me the name of the turmeric and black pepper supplement you use, if you would be kind enough, please. I would like to give that a try. Many thanks.

I have severe arthritis in one ankle and am awaiting surgery. I think the plan to fuse the joint. Has anyone had this? I'd be very grateful for any advice on recovery etc

I take type 2 collagen. It's really worked for me.

I find knitting helps my arthritis in my hands plus walking netball is very good exercise for my fingers !
I take turmeric , vitamin D and cod liver oil but I might try the cider vinegar and honey drink too

When purchasing supplements, check out they are ‘clean’, in other words, not packed with added fillers, which makes them cheaper.
A recommended company is www.british-supplements.net

The reviews speak for themselves.
Also remember it will take several weeks for any supplements to take effect.

I mix turmeric with yoghurt and black pepper and have a spoonful a day. Has to be full fat because turmeric is fat soluble.
I don’t buy the tablets or capsules because Michael Mosley said they don’t work.

Vitabiotics do an ultra Turmeric with black pepper & vitamin D. After reading this thread I’m going to continue with a packet I’d forgotten about. It’s a good company & delivery is very prompt.

I think turmeric needs pepper fat and heat for it to work properly? That’s why I try to make golden paste and add that to milky drinks or soup. Although I must admit to taking it in tablet form when I don’t have time. I do keep a record of when I take it but can’t honestly say if it helps or not as the arthritis in my knee is always there and my hand pain comes and goes.

Has anyone tried Turkey Tail for arthritis? It's supposed to be one of the most potent anti-inflammatories there is.

After I found that it is regularly used as an adjunct to cancer treatments in Japan I bought it for DH when his treatments started. It is supposed to help kill cancer cells, but the reason I bought it was because it is anti-inflammatory and I hoped it would help alleviate the radiation inflammation. We are a bit stunned, as are the doctors, that DH has had hardly any side affects from his treatments, even though he was treated with radiotherapy and immunotherapy at the same time, immediately after chemotherapy. We cannot prove the Turkey Tail was of any benefit at all, we only know that he is healing and hasn't had to deal with any of the dreadful side effects we saw in many others at the hospital. The radiotherapy was to his bladder, but apart from mild irritation for a few weeks none of the pain, ulcers or gastric problems materialised.

I'm not aware of any problems with taking Turkey Tail. It's worth giving it a bit of research. I buy from British Supplements because I can be pretty sure of what I am getting from them.

So it’s a fungus. Interesting. I wonder how much research has been done into the use of fungi when it comes to medicine as they’re amazingly complex ( ok I must admit to being addicted to series one of The Last of Us). I read that when a tree is cut down neighbouring trees send help to it via fungi to help it recover.

MayBee70 I don't know how much research has been done by western medicine - obviously there is more in Eastern medicine as they are using it in cancer care but only as an adjunct to conventional cancer treatments. I've found it hard to get hold of though, so far only a couple of wishy washy studies with no outcome either way.

I haven't mentioned it to DH's consultants - one of them nearly had a heart attack when I mentioned simply taking Vit C as an immune support. They've done a brilliant job so far, but I just wish they were a bit more open to investigating things that they haven't considered. I saw a case paper from a Brit who had been treated in Japan (because he was living there at the time) and that convinced me to research a bit further. But that doesn't answer the question about arthritis and as neither of us have arthritis we can't test it 🤔

Glucosamine did nothing for me, but TRY IT, not all bodies are the same, might work for you!

Also try the turmeric idea, it might not help, but it just might!

I've taken a multi-vit for years, also a garlic tablet (the odourless are best!!) seems to help with general health, circulation and colds? IsNibs and I have both had hip replacements, I'd say the best cure!
