Yoga gran- I too sleep on my tummy. I wake up every morning with a cricked neck. I cannot find a decent pillow anywhere for a front sleeper.

If I sleep on my stomach I tend to lie my head flat on the mattress and don't use a pillow.

butterandjam you beat me to it lol. My question was going to be "does anyone use a body pillow" I have been looking and reading about them on youtube, I did the 5 cushion example and I had the most wonderful nights sleep.

Then started reading about a body pillow .
butterandjam would you recommend one (brand etc) I think Dunelme have one.

When sleeping alone away from home I tend to sleep in a sort of running position on my side/front with head not on the pillow (if I fall asleep reading and forget to chuck the pillow off I wake with a head/neck ache)
When sleeping with my OH we have what we call "the octopus" position - his back to me,my head on the pillow supporting my arm and my other arm and leg thrown over his. We both fall asleep instantly like this!

I go to sleep listening to Jason Stephensons get back to sleep on utube lying on my back on my Shakti mat. However, when I wake up to go to the loo I then tend to sleep on my side.

I'm usually a tummy sleeper with a very thin or no pillow

I slept on my back after hip surgery.
I now do it 50% of the time!
Quite peculiar for me (a side sleeper) but comfy!

Gastric digestive problems makes it impossible for me to lie on my back, so it’s either left or right side. Oddly when I get up for the loo I’m never stiff like I am when I get up from sitting watching tv. Strange!

I can't usually sleep on my back because it makes me snore which wakes me up, but I do find it more comfortable for my dodgy back, hips and knees. I normally sleep on my side with one leg raised and bent to take the pressure off, I'd love a body pillow but don't think that there would be room in my bed for that as well as my husband. That makes me wonder.....

Buy yourself a body pillow as your Christmas present from Santa and you'll never look back.

Buy two and you've solved the problem of what to get for a man/husband who has everything.

Ordinarily I struggle to get to sleep on my back, maybe it's because I'm repairing my body so I need to sleep more.

Personally I find it terribly hard to sleep on my back, I did so for a while when I broke an arm, a bit like you describe Elless, it wasn't ideal for me. Having recovered from that I alternate on both sides. I do find the broken arm right side becomes stiff at times, so roll over to the left side. Absolutely continue in the mode you are now if that works for you, why not.

Carry on sleeping on your back seems sensible.

Having recently come out of hospital after replacement shoulder joint surgery I have been told to sleep on my back, inclined with my arm and shoulder supported by a cushion. I have slept like this for a week now and can't believe how comfy I am. I don't wake up all stiff, sleep really deeply, no wriggling around and no getting up to go to the toilet in the night yet I know as soon as I can I will go back to sleeping on my side, visiting the toilet numerous times, tossing and turning etc. Just don't understand it 🤷‍♀️
