Don't do all that, it's not necessary. Sounds like a scam, go to your surgery. Report that request as a scam.

I’m glad you’re sorted, I prefer using the app to spending ages trying to get through on the phone. I’m glad it never asked me for my driving licence as I surrendered it due to VI.

We both have the NHS app and neither of us needed to use photo ID.

I’m on! I don’t know how they managed to match the phot with my driving licence photo but they did. I don’t understand all the test results. Also handy for finding out the names of the doctors I saw because I seem to have a blank spot when it comes to these and promptly forget them!

I’ve not had the NHS on my phone for very long but was never asked to supply a photograph. I log on using a password and a security number which they email to me and I repeat on the site page. Could you ask your surgery for advice? It’s most useful to be able to use it.

I doubt it's a scam Nandalot.
We've just had to do this for Bank and for Companies House, after several years of opting out from it.

Feels to me like this capability has been on official sites for some timme, but they've recently made it compulsory??

Presumably a scam site would have trouble with the live photo needed, so they wouldn't ask for the photo challenge.

I didn’t need to upload a photo either. IIRC it was quite simple. The app is very useful for ordering repeat prescriptions, which alas I now have to do. Takes about 5 seconds.

Is it really necessary to have two stage ID on the NHS app? It's not a bank account.

I didn’t need a photo. I have to put in my password each time - if it’s to check prescriptions, just my date of birth.

I think you can use a password OR face recognition
When I first installed the app it was just a password, I often get a message asking if I want to use face recognition, I just tick ‘not now’ box as I m happy with just my password.

I've just uninstalled and reinstalled it on my android phone. Are you confusing face recognition with a photo? Because they are 2 different things. And you set your own password during set up. I believe some years ago when GP surgeries started to go digital you were given a password but not now. I installed and registered in probably less than 5 minutes. No photo required

Just googled and it says you do need to do what I have tried to do but, as was suggested upthread, I could have just got a password from the surgery.

Been using the NHS app for a few years never been asked for a photo either then or since. Your email address. your phone number, your allotted pharmacy, but no photo

Perhaps call into your surgery and seek their advice on how to download the app.

If memory serves me right, when I called in to the surgery they printed off a password they said I needed to input, but I seem to think that I didn’t actually need to use it, my NHS number and DOB details were sufficient.

That all rings a bell. To see the surgery site, with prescription ordering and to book nurse appointments I got a password, which I still need, although it is stored on my laptop. I took my passport in to get that, I think.

The national NHS app had less security for some reason, or maybe it was linked to the surgery one, although they each get different information, strangely. The surgery one has (eg) blood test results if they are ordered by a GP but not a consultant, and the NHS one doesn't seem to show test results at all, so I ask when I get a follow-up appointment. It means I have to keep my own records to see things in the same place, which is irritating.

I didn't have to upload a photo. I think it was quite basic information required.

You can opt out of the photo ID.

Why do you need photo ID? I use the app, and didn't need it. I can't remember how I applied, but there is no photo on it - I think I just put my NHS number and details such as name and address.
