Anyone else worried bout this. I know it's a on a ship at the moment. But I have been listening to BBC news channel and quiet a large amount of time devoted to it plus a meeting with the WHO
it has made my blood run cold at the thought of another serious virus gaining hold.

Vito Thu 07-May-26 17:21:11

No not all

Couldn't care less. We are in the midst of every virus you can think of.

polomint Thu 07-May-26 17:42:33

There is a thread about this on the news and politics site travelsofar

MT62 Thu 07-May-26 17:53:37

Here we go again 🤦‍♀️

MT62 Thu 07-May-26 18:01:43

They reckon 40 odd have got off the ship already on to some island that I didn’t catch the name of.
Doing a track & trace.

BlueBelle Thu 07-May-26 18:09:52

No as Vito says I m not at all worried, no concern from me at all Why are you worried Travelsofar ?

Kandinsky Thu 07-May-26 18:12:19

Not worried no ( not yet anyway ) but it’s made my mind up about going on a cruise.

Visgir1 Thu 07-May-26 18:16:03

Nope.. It's always been around.

Same. I'm not particularly worried about it, although I do feel the 'containing' of it appears to have been a bit lackadaisical, to put it mildly. However, it has only served to confirm my lifelong vow never to set foot on a cruise ship.

I don’t believe this was picked up from the cruise ship at all. I read though, that a bird watching outing was undertaken to a landfill site. Apparently hantavirus is fairly rife in South Argentina.

MT62 Thu 07-May-26 18:28:04

You could say that about all inclusive holidays.
I think we are the only two here using hand sanitizer before our meals.
you imagine where all those hands have been before picking up the tongs 🤦‍♀️

Fallingstar Thu 07-May-26 18:37:27

I am quite worried. Is a zoonotic disease that spreads between humans, there is no cure and it has a not insignificant fatality rate. It has already killed several people before their time and I don’t think we have heard the last of it yet.
Will see.

I think there’s a little bit more going on here than a common cold, tbh!

Allsorts Thu 07-May-26 18:54:48

I am not concerned about catching it as think risks are very low but I feel sympathy for the victims. Horrible thing to happen to anyone.

REKA Thu 07-May-26 18:54:53

Not at all concerned. The media does this all the time. Not long ago the country was getting hyped up due to meningitis even though there will always be a few deaths from it

Silvergirl Thu 07-May-26 18:57:04

I'm starting to worry slightly as some of my family are due to fly to Tenerife on Tuesday. They do seem to have been lax in dealing with it. 29 of them left the cruise ship in St Helena and flew to various countries including UK. 2 people left Cape Verde and flew to UK I believe. A passenger said today that they were all mixing during meal times and recreation.

MT62 Thu 07-May-26 19:03:51

We are in Tenerife. That’s why I probably feel slightly panicked.
Hopefully they will charter a private plane home for these poor people.

Gran22boys Thu 07-May-26 20:56:45

Slightly concerned yes.

Cossy Thu 07-May-26 21:00:48

Not really.

MT62 Thu 07-May-26 21:17:11

Just hoping it peters out quickly & those people can return to normal life as soon as.

Yes I’m a bit concerned as it’s my 70th birthday next week and my son & daughter in law have booked me a suprise weeks holiday on a cruise ship. Normally I would always book a balcony cabin but they have booked me an inside cabin. Not looking forward to being enclosed as I get claustrophobic so I’ve asked daughter in law (who’s coming with me) to bid on a balcony because I’m afraid if any germs get on board I’d hate to have to quarantine in an inside cabin!
I don’t think it’s gone down too well but tough. Also I will be sticking to eating in the dining room not buffet as the thought of all those people touching the utensils yuk!

MissAdventure Sat 09-May-26 14:02:43

I can't say I'm thrilled at the prospect.

We have friends who are cruise crazy and they have never experienced being on a ship that experiences an outbreak of any kind. You will, am sure, have a fantastic time but having a balcony anyway makes sense, would definitely push for that.

I follow the news with interest. Hope this virus disappear quickly.
