I wonder if anyone who has had this procedure could give me some advice.
I'm asking about sedation. Would you opt for gas and air, or the sedation that puts you into a sleepy state? I'm going on Thursday afternoon so I'm currently on the low fibre diet.
Thank you.

Mini Moon don’t forget to report back after it’s been done.
Today’s procedure will be the worst part. the rest is nowhere near as bad as you might have thought.

Best wishes for today.

My colonoscopy is tomorrow afternoon. Today I have to drink the first of my two sachets of Plenvu, instructions say to begin at 7pm.
Second one tomorrow morning at 6am. Procedure is at 15:40.
I'll report back tomorrow evening.

MiniMoon I would suggest you wear panties if you don’t usually or similar tonight because I had an unfortunate accident while I was sleeping once.

It’s not an enjoyable procedure but I didn’t have sedation or gas and air and it was not too bad. They must be economising at the N&N!
I wanted to watch but the screen was at an awkward angle and the woman who was keeping me calm kept pushing my head back down.

I would definatly take Mokrynas advice about the pants. I hope it goes well tommorow. I'm sure it will.

Over the years I have had many colonoscopies, I had Colonic Cancer aged 25. I have had sedation sometimes and sometimes gas and air, never really given a choice. The last time was gas and air and ended up having a massive asthma attack!!!

That cup of tea and 2 chocolate bourbons were the best I have ever had in my life!!!
I only had a sigmoidoscopy and didnt need sedation or gas and air but was offered both. I also had an enema pack to self administer at home. Didnt want to do that so they did that for me before the procedure. Lovely staff doing a funny job.

Good advice about the pants I also used a Tena pad as well on the way home as it was by taxi. Just to be safe.

Hope all went well MiniMoon and you've had something to eat.

MissAdventure Thu 18-Jun-26 18:17:03

Hope it went well, and you can put it "behind" you now thanks

Well, taking the 2 sachets of Plenvu was worse than the procedure.
Just got home from North Tyneside General Hospital. All went well, one small polyp removed and biopsy taken from my ileo-caecol valve which was inflamed. They are not concerned. No other abnormality detected. All in all a good experience. I had the sedation and only felt minor discomfort.
Thank you all for your good wishes, you are a great bunch of ladies.

Pleased it went well for year, next check up in 5 years?

FranP Thu 18-Jun-26 21:58:53

It is very uncomfortable, but not painful.

It actually helps them if you are awake - gas and air is great stuff - high with no hangover. It is quicker to come round and get home, but they did not hassle me to leave, so I took my own time and a nice cuppa.

I knew that I reacted badly to sedation, so I opted not.

HeyGirl Thu 18-Jun-26 22:21:39

Good news from the OP, you must be relieved. Well worth having these check ups.

VANECAM Thu 18-Jun-26 22:27:44

Mini moon - thanks for posting your feedback. All positive too. That’s great news!

See what you did there 😂

I have had sedation and gas and air. The sedation did nothing for me, I did not feel any different. Gas and air definitely helped. The worst part was afterwards as I had a lot of very painful "gripes" caused by the air left inside. Not a pleasant experience.

win

Squiffy

Another one here who has had sedation. I knew my gag reflex would make it impossible for the camera to go down my throat. Sedation wasn’t needed for the camera going in the ‘other end’!

your are talking about the different end !!grin

win I said that sedation wasn’t needed for ‘the other end’ ! 😆

Glad all went well MiniMoon.
