Spring cleaning – is anyone?

Just spent some time poking dust from between floorboards with a meat skewer and sookin' it all up (not the skewer) with the vacuum cleaner. Second time in seven years. Only did a few boards in the hall. Need a sit-downery and a snackeroo now.

Actually, I started worrying that I was removing "insulation" wink. Wouldn't want to do that.

Hello Bags, well 7 years of dust would certainly make good draft insulation!!
Seriously, have found myself hoovering curtains and generally letting the breeze blow through the bedrooms these last couple of days......and my Vege box delivery man said that hes not seen so much washing out on lines on his rounds, since last year!

In spring, I clean anything that sunshine coming through the window shows up as a bit too dusty. Last week I moved the furniture round in the sitting room, and hoovered the bit behind the TV. That should do till next year, so I'll call it spring cleaning grin

May wash the nets and cushion covers - if I get the time!

I am considering giving up spring cleaning until Lent.................next Lent wink

I don't like to spring clean and disturb the dust in case anyone with hay fever or asthma comes to visit.

As I'm trying to sell selling the house, my natural tidiness is a bonus, but keeping the windows sparkling is not something that comes naturally.

I find that when the sun shines, I feel I must get outside and take advantage of it, so the weather is too nice to be indoors cleaning. Then when it rains, I feel too fed up to start cleaning. The only time I really do any serious cleaning is just before visitors arrive.

Does it count if I'm keeping a look out for the windowcleaner? sunshine

Florence56 Wed 24-Apr-13 13:15:37

kitty, a very important task!

Last week my window cleaner left my front windows dirtier than before he started, and when I see him he'll get the sharp edge of my tongue!

My windows are those tiny Georgian ones............I don't like doing them either grin

I do intend to do some spring cleaning, - eventually.

grannyactivist Wed 24-Apr-13 14:15:37

Erm - I already did it, quite some time ago actually. I'm very glad I did then because now it's all I can do to get up off the sofa. [cough, cough]

annodomini Wed 24-Apr-13 14:34:48

I'll get round to doing it...next year?

Tegan Wed 24-Apr-13 14:44:15

I've moved from the rat infested compost bins to the garden shed and I wish I hadn't started. I'm even washing flower pots [and thinking to myself as I'm doing it 'why am I washing flower pots confused?']. It's now going to rain and everything is outside [old dog baskets; rusty golf clubs; broken garden tools [think they can be repaired]]. I'm also thinking 'why am I working on the garden when the house is disgusting' [it really is]. And I've got to start on the garage soon sad.

Bags Wed 24-Apr-13 14:47:17

Oh, tegan, don't remind me about the shed and the "den"! wink

Ana Wed 24-Apr-13 14:52:26

Notso - good thinking! wink

I have my three grandchildren on a Monday through until Tuesday night. With the two girls at school yesterday I thought I would take advantage of my 3 year old grandsons "love of all things clean and tidy". So armed with a squirty bottle, a roll of kitchen paper and his little toilet step, he did all of my inside windows (quite thoroughly I might add). He sings as he works too which is quite a bonus and refers to the "real" (outside) window cleaner as "my mate".

I am thinking of hiring him out at good rates if anyone is interested. grin

Tegan Wed 24-Apr-13 15:35:37

Feel awful. Brushed a pile of leaves/dirt/cobwebs into a corner of the shed and, as I looked down there were two peacock butterflies sad. One seems to be ok but the other had a damaged wing [my fault]. Put them outside and they seem to have gone somewhere but why would two butterflies be in a corner of an old shed? I thought they hatched out on leaves [from reading The Big Hungry Caterpillar]. And I've never seen a peacock butterfly in my garden ever [and they are my favourites]. Feel like a murderer now. So Bags; don't go into the shed..leave it alone...

glammanana Wed 24-Apr-13 15:39:35

Ella only thing with Georgian style windows is that if the window cleaner doesn't do them properly they look like port holes grin Last week I had a fit of spring cleaning I washed all the window frames in lounge and bedroom/kitchen and changed the curtains, did all the glass furniture/shelves the rest will have to wait until I recover.winkor find a willing volunteer.

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 15:54:47

tegan Tortoiseshell butterflies hibernate, so maybe peacocks do too. They are related (both Vanessids) Just thought, could they have been tortoiseshells?

numberplease Wed 24-Apr-13 15:56:54

Spring cleaning............what`s that? In fact, cleaning, what`s that? grin

Elegran Wed 24-Apr-13 15:58:41

Tegan Googled Vanessids - "All vanessids overwinter as adults. Some species find the climate mild enough to survive the winter. While others like the peacock and red admiral will only do so in good years but in these cases the numbers are bolsted by migrants from Europe. Many of the vanessids’ foodplants are nettles, a good reason to find an out of a way place in the garden for a small patch of nettles."

How do you define Spring Cleaning? If its the whole house, forget it. I'm not going to interfere in DH's study or his shed! I have a fancy to clear out my shed so might get round to that sometime.

Does it involve cleaning the gap in radiators? I know someone who does that every week!

Cleaning skirting boards? Do that if someone spills on them or when we decorate.

Do go round with that long thingy which does high cobwebs occassionally but that has nothing to do with Spring.

Is it that cleaning which requires standing on a stepladder? No don't do that.

Don't think I'll list any more things I don't do. grin

Nelliemoser Wed 24-Apr-13 16:12:27

gillybob I could use your little window cleaner. Does he sweep chimneys as well? wink
