How do you stop the loo paper from getting wet?

I really like the look of the wet rooms on the property programmes and I used one recently when I was in hospital. I still really like the idea BUT when the loo is also in the wet room, the toilet paper gets wet. Everything gets wet. And the new shape wash basins (rectangles, shallow bowls, woodland stone dishes) seem to send the water swirling right round the bowl and over the edge. And what is the point of 'waterfall taps'? Why is a bath with a rolled edge better? Is it just me?

I can't help but think that the design of things in bathrooms didn't change much for a long time because everything was pretty much designed to suit the function of a bathroom/loo. Don't quite get all these modern designs..sinks too small to do much in and taps that you need instructions with to know how to turn them on/off etc.

When I was a child we had a cast iron roll top bath on legs with no end of spiders etc underneath and my mum was never so happy as when she got rid of it and had a new "suite" fitted with flush panelled bath etc.
O tempora o mores!
BTW no idea what to do to keep the loopaper dry - plastic bag?

Can you not get toilet roll holders with a sort of cover over the top section? I'm sure I've seen these in various hotels.

I'm going to stay with son in a week or so, will have a look. I don't remember wet loo roll in his wetroom.

If you want to instantly transform your bathroom into a wetroom without any outlay whatsoever, have my 2 grandsons (3 and 20 months) for a bath - they managed to transform the bathroom into a
soaking wetroom at a splashy stroke grin

Mine (then 3 and 6) topped that, g'mum. They decided to 'play' in the bath one day and turned half the house into a 'wet house'. Big insurance claim ensued. Moral - if boys are quiet, trouble is afoot!

Warning taken on board, anno !!

glammanana Tue 23-Jul-13 11:59:19

The one you showed from Amazon phoenix is the same as mine but it is on a chrome stand with loo-brush bought from B & Ms,the page for your other link is not available at moment.

Anne58 Tue 23-Jul-13 12:06:35

Oh well, you get the general idea!

harrigran Tue 23-Jul-13 12:42:30

Infernal things, wet rooms. Nothing stays dry, paper forever crinkly and mould formation unless you have extreme ventilation.

When I was young, we had a tin bath in front of the fire once a week, one side so hot you could hardly touch it, the other really cold. No bother with loo paper getting wet, the loo was outside. I remember too, when my husband played football in his teens, they had a ramshackled club-house with a 'bungalow'bath, can't remember how the water was heated. but they used that at the end of their matches. Had to fight to get in the team, considered themselves really lucky.

I hate all the modern designs in bathrooms, huge rolltop baths in front of a window shock, water everywhere!
And what's more......(shock/horror) I like carpet on the bathroom floor! So there!

Ana Tue 23-Jul-13 18:30:18

I agree, Ella! Why on earth would anyone want a 'wet room' anyway? What's wrong with a shower/shower cubicle? confused

Tegan Tue 23-Jul-13 18:44:03

A friend of mine has a husband with dementia and Parkinsons and she finds the wet room invaluable for showering him.

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 18:56:54

I'd love one! If you can't stand easily to wash all over, and are likely to fall if you bend over. I'm afraid a stool in a cubicle is not satisfactory. There is not enough room to manoeuvre. One of the things I love about my cruises is the wet room. You can see the QE2 one on my blog wot I did!

Ana Tue 23-Jul-13 18:59:59

OK, I stand corrected - I hadn't realised they could be so useful, especially for disabled people. Sorry! blush

Tegan Tue 23-Jul-13 19:17:48

But they're not marketed at disabled people are they, but rather as an up market bathroom. Maybe they're missing a trick here?

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 19:20:19

The ones I look at are, but at over £7000 to convert my bathroom I'm trying to manage!

Galen Tue 23-Jul-13 19:21:20

That's at disabled people I mean

Ella46 Tue 23-Jul-13 19:24:17

After showering my dad before he died, I can see your point Galen.

Nelliemoser Tue 23-Jul-13 20:48:19

GALEN I expect the moment you hinted that you wanted something suitable for a disabled person their prices were doubled.

On holiday in the Canaries in Febraury I shared a large and very attractive modern villa with two other women. Their two rooms had baths with shower over. Mine on the ground floor was just a very attractive bath room but just had a shower and a shower tray about 3" high at most.

The bath room was small but quite adequate, apart from the fact that the shower soaked everything in the room and if I didn't put a spare towel against the door the water ran into the hall.

I raised this with our Spanish speaking guide who was in the villa as well.

She discovered that the management of this small hotel group had decreed that shower screens or curtains spoiled the look of the bath rooms.
How B*** daft can you get.

Stansgran Tue 23-Jul-13 21:10:56

I loathe and detest shower curtains. They give me the creeps and if one touches me when I'm showering ...ugh... I have a screen. I would like a walk in shower... Lots of adverts will now pop up.
