Do you hang them up on the line/indoor airer in pairs, or just higgledy-piggledy, and then sort them out on the bed or table before you put them away in the drawers?

I do the second method, but I wonder if is the most efficient timewise.

When my DD's reached early teens I got fed up listening to, Mum, where is my, whatever item of clothing, which I had freshly ironed and hung up, only to find it, tried on,then discarded in a heap.

The nagging at them was getting me nowhere so I decided to show them how to operate the washing machine and let them loose with the iron. Just bit my tongue instead of saying, are you quite happy to go out with your jumper not ironed?smile

Now I can't help smirking when I hear DD1 say to her DD1, excuse me! would you hang that up please.

My family, including OH (now ex), used to get back their clothes the same way they discarded them on the floor, whether inside out or half and half. However, it was never mentioned, so they either didn't notice or were scared I would refuse to wash their stuff if they complained. When they were old enough I gave each one a basket for doing their own ironing.

Actually it was the knickers I found in the hedge that real surprised me. They did not belong to anyone in my family.

It was probably entirely coincidental that we lived on a busy route between the local university and the halls of residence. Although as our hedge was fronted by iron railings I would have thought the Halls of residence would have provided more comfort.

The sock, Flickety clearly didn't want to be flyped. Sounds uncomfortable. wink

I was baffled FlicketyB by your eloping remark until I realised you were referring to the socks! Did you insist on reuniting them with their respective partners?

Many years ago I once found a sock of DS's and of DH's deep in the hedge when I was cutting it. I assumed they were eloping.

Viscose is made of wood pulp.

thatbags Thu 17-Oct-13 07:02:04

Socks made of thread which is made of bamboo.

petallus Thu 17-Oct-13 06:59:58

What are bamboo socks?

thatbags Thu 17-Oct-13 06:53:56

Really? DD has some bamboo nappies and they are tumble-dryable.

trishs Thu 17-Oct-13 01:03:31

I could never bring myself to put socks in a tumble dryer, it ruins them! I prefer bamboo socks anyway and they are not tumble-dryable.

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:47:24

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:39:00

Very good point J08. and well thought out may I say. [Grin]

Bags I may try your method of throwing them back at him. Oh sorry, meant back in the room of course.

Gally Wed 16-Oct-13 22:35:41

I don't think we deflype in Fife grin

Agus Wed 16-Oct-13 22:30:04

Apologies for using a Scottish word which I should have realised not everyone would know. Just used it through habit as this is the term we use here.

Flype is when you pair socks together, unflyping is when you separate the pair.

vampirequeen Wed 16-Oct-13 22:12:56

What's deflyping?

grannyactivist Wed 16-Oct-13 21:25:18

I never have a lot of socks to wash or dry - I do my own personal washing and all household items, the others do their own washing. I hang socks up as they come out of the basket and pair them as I put them away.

thatbags Wed 16-Oct-13 21:16:31

Nope.

Elegran Wed 16-Oct-13 21:16:12

Does anyone who doesn't care have to read it?
