Steam to clean an oven

Yesterday, I took the top rack out of the dishwasher and put the oven shelves in to wash on intensive. I took them out gleaming. Thanks for the tip, whoever gave it. Now - what do I do about the interior of the glass door?

Get an oven cleaning specialist in, they are fantastic and not too pricey. Then put silicone liners in the bottom of your newly cleaned oven, not the rubbish cheap ones, get the stuff on a roll from Lakeland. That's it sorted. All you have to do after that is wipe the glass occasionally, and give the shelves a soak every now and then if it bothers you. Oven cleaning franchise people will get your oven cleaner than you will ever be able to. I had it done prior to selling our house and our oven looked as good as the day it was installed.

I much prefer to pay Ovenu. I have no hassle and he does a good job.

I have an oven with a 'pyrolyse' function. It heats to crematorium temps and everything is reduced to a fine dust. Oven sparkling clean with a damp cloth. It probably consumes massive electricity, but we have a wind-turbine on roof of house to produce some of our own power ( we live in a very windy part of world) , and anyway I only do it about every 2 years (or 3)

Have found that OvenPride works like a dream. Rotten job but helps if you can wipe the oven over when it is still warm from cooking - keeps the worst of the grot under control

The temperature of steam is 100deg c and the temperature at which stuff has got baked onto the inside of the oven, more like 200 deg. Therefore, steam will not dissolve the baked on rubbish, chemicals are the answer.

Hadn't thought about using the dishwasher for the racks I'll give it a try and the rack in a bag idea.

You would think in this day and age with all the technology around someone could invent (other than the spray method) equipment that would tackle this awful job.

I clean my oven with the steam cleaner that husband uses to take off old wall paper etc. -it has a big flat 'paddle'. Works like a charm. I just have to be a bit careful that drips don't get in everywhere (electric oven). Then I follow it up with a bit of elbow grease and a suitable cleaning product.

The racks go into the dishwasher on "Intensive" and voila.

Oh dear, here we go again! My oven is cleaned by Mr P (and no despite numerous askings I do not hire him out )

He swears by Oven Pride, plus a little bit of elbow grease on the inside of the door and floor!

Sorry, can't be more specific as I have never cleaned the oven in this house, which we moved into in 2005!

PS, Not a slut, of course the oven has been cleaned regularly, but not by me! I luuuurve Mr P!

I find if you have a tray big enough to soak racks and glass doors. put lots of biological soap powder in, and soak, its not (Clarty) easy to clean

I signed up to Which to get a Best Buy recommendation for a 2 in 1 steam cleaner to use on the cooker/oven and shower/bathroom tiles. Which didn't recommend any of them.

Sorry to give you the bad news but I owned one of the steam cleaners that are a floor mop and hand held and it was useless at cleaning the oven. My tip is if you have one get hubby to do it using one of those oven cleaners were you put the racks in a 'plastic like' bag and spread a paste like substance over the inside of the oven. I hope you get a better reply from another grannetter or it on with the marigolds xx
