Toilet Rolls - soft but not strong

Sorry to lower the tone of the forum but can anyone point me in the direction of decent toilet paper that does not disintegrate as soon as it gets wet? blush I thought I had cracked the problem by buying the Aldi, Aloe Vera rolls but they have changed and are now softer but decidedly not as strong. I have worked my way through all the brands, buying whatever is on special offer but each one is as bad as the others. I became so fed up of finding bits of paper stuck to the DGCs' bottoms and pants that I supplied them with baby wipes instead but now we are warned that wipes are not to be flushed down the toilet, not even singly.

Does anyone else have the same problems? Can anyone recommend a soft but STURDY loo roll?

i use sainsburys own and find it doesnt disintergrate...i never buy the coloured though..

We like the one with koalas on it (only white!). Available in Lidl, Tesco and probably other places.

shysal Thu 13-Mar-14 09:41:42

Cushelle for me, I think that is the koala one. Seems stronger than most.

rosequartz Thu 13-Mar-14 09:46:09

Yes, I think it is Cushelle. DD1 asked if we had brought it back from Australia with us!

rosequartz Thu 13-Mar-14 09:46:57

Not DD1, I mean DGD1 who was 4 at the time!!

I have been using a brand called Nicky Elite which a friend gets in bulk from a place called Buyology. Really good quality, and a bargain at £1.99 for a pack of 9! Loads better than Andrex.

I have never heard of Buyology phoenix. I must google it to see if they sell in other parts of the country.

There are other stores around, 2 in your neck of the woods (but not very close) and Wales. The only one closest to me is Southampton and that is a tad far to go to shop.

Our friend gets them when he goes to his caravan near Fowey. We but them from him by the bale, 5 packs with 9 rolls in each pack. When he first told us about them we thought it might be a special offer with a limited time, but he has been getting them for us for over a year now!

Agree with dollie, Sainsbury's own (in white) is best I have found and have done lots of research - we are a bit choosy when it comes to loo rolls. Hate it on holiday if they aren't up to scratch (no pun intended).

I have found that some recycled brands beyond useless.
Some of the more expensive brands do not bio-degrade as well though do they because they contain something other than wood pulp.
Bring back the IZAL grin

Ana Thu 13-Mar-14 11:09:37

Oh no! Anything but Izal...shock

Anne58 Thu 13-Mar-14 12:53:03

Bronco?

shysal Thu 13-Mar-14 12:54:25

When soft toilet tissue first became available, my father insisted that it was about as useful as a handful of confetti! We had to use the Izal type for years, as he brought home all the stock from the bank where he worked, when they changed over to soft. Each piece was printed with 'now wash your hands'. My brother and I were given the job of tearing off and interleaving the sheets to fit in our flat dispenser.

JoyBloggs Thu 13-Mar-14 13:09:42

Phoenix Noooooooooo, please not Bronco! Ouch! shock

Nonu Thu 13-Mar-14 13:14:14

My mother insisted on using Bronco , lord only knows why , horrible, horrible.

Brendawymms Thu 13-Mar-14 13:18:29

I find that only quilted loo rolls are strong enough. Every time they are on offer I stock up.

Culag Thu 13-Mar-14 13:48:27

Take a look at this though. www.null-hypothesis.co.uk/article/300

Those of us with older properties have to be careful.

Ana Thu 13-Mar-14 14:05:33

Yes indeed! Our shared drain has had to be unblocked quite a few time since we've lived here, due to nappy liners being flushed down the toilet by one of the neighbours.

I used to flush the odd piece of kitchen roll, but don't any more!

Galen Thu 13-Mar-14 14:18:46

Had the same problem. Mind you ,the blockage ends up in old git next doors drain and he has to deal with it!grin
I've sent the article to his wife!

Gally Thu 13-Mar-14 14:24:37

Izal and Bronco only had one good use - for tracing maps of the world for Geography lessons wink

In Oz the loo paper is just right - soft and doesn't integrate. I have yet to find anything which compares, although I quite like the one which has 'hello Vera' in it - can't remember the make.

Andrex Touch of Luxury enriched with Shea Butter. Their Washlets are good too.

Joelise Thu 13-Mar-14 15:38:34

oznan Thu 13-Mar-14 16:12:20
