What kind of pillows do you favour? Soft and squashy? Bouncy? Ultra firm? There are so many types that it's quite confusing when you go to choose one. How many do you use? One, two, more, or none at all? I like to squash mine up and make a kind of nest! I'm probably doing it all wrong...

With all that silk & satin Galen, I trust you wear your pearls in bed. I prefer the Bushman approach - head propped up on arm so the creepy crawlies & bedbugs don't crawl into your ear.

I have a down feather pillow for my neck, which I can then mould to support my neck
I then have two fairly firm pillows on either side to aid me to turn in the night and support my artificial hips.
I've found turning at night facilitated by having a (very cheap silk bottom sheet and pillow case)
I also buy M&S satin nightdresses to make it easier to turn

Farnorth Me too! I have a fairly thin pillow under my head with a neck pillow my neck from aching and a large pillow under my knees to keep my back from locking up overnight.

As for headboards. I do have one to stop the pillow falling off but I cannot sit up in bed at with my legs straight out at all. So no breakfast in bed for me.

I cannot see why anyone bothers with piles of pillows on top of the bed, it's just something to trip over getting out of bed for a pee in the middle of the night.

P.S. Absolutely NO decorative pillows - what's the point?

FarNorth Tue 27-May-14 20:46:15

For many many years I always had 2 pillows but now I have a small 'cushtie' type one which fits under my neck and doesn't give me neck-strain. I also have a pillow under my knees, or between them if I'm on my side, as I tend to get back-ache without it.
All in synthetic fibres. smile

Good job we are living now then, and not in the middle ages, sleeping on rushes.Shudder.

Mine are duck down with a memory foam core.

I have one flat feather pillow. I can't bear foam as they are too hot so maybe I need a Chillow. I have the great gift of being able to sleep anywhere and I share my bed with cats and dogs.

sherish Tue 27-May-14 17:50:29

Yes I have tried a Chillow but I found it too cold. I think it would be better wrapped in something. I tried it inside a pillowcase but it wasn't very comfortable.

NanKate Tue 27-May-14 17:48:28

Has anyone tried a Chillow which remains permanently cool - I rather fancy one ?

Purpledaffodil Tue 27-May-14 17:42:31

And also I find no headboard means the bed travels when you try to sit up. Our bed has a footboard and a headboard. Very structured!wink

ninathenana Tue 27-May-14 16:25:53

I love our king size sleigh bed with built in head and footboard. Those of you without a headboard, do you not find your pillows disappear down between the mattress and the wall ?

rosesarered Tue 27-May-14 14:18:46

We always have a headboard, the current one in pine.

rosesarered Tue 27-May-14 14:17:51

DH has a memory foam [quite a 'dear' one, as they do vary.] I like 2 pillows, the bottom one firm, man made fibre the top one feather.I agree Soutra about the flat pillow that is given in some countries, awful.

HollyDaze Tue 27-May-14 12:38:51

I use a buckwheat pillow in cotton pillowcases. They stay pleasantly cool and you can 'shape' them to fit around your shoulders/neck etc. Lovely!

I haven't heard of those before Minimouse - I also have to use pillows that can be moulded around my neck and shoulders (due to an ancient spinal injury); I might have a look and see where to get them from smile

Charleygirl Tue 27-May-14 11:35:18

I cannot remember the last time I had a headboard on my bed- possibly my teens.

I use 2 pillows, the bottom one is plain foam and quite squishy whereas the top one is memory foam which I love.

nanapug Tue 27-May-14 10:57:17

Memory foam for me every time. I too take it away with me. Only took me two nights to get used to it and I am getting far fewer neck problems. I do however buy cheap ones from Ikea and throw them often as I am dribbler sad

MiniMouse Tue 27-May-14 10:03:50

Definitely a headboard - and a 'footboard' to keep the covers on the bed and not the floor.

I have a three-quarter sized bed for which I couldn't find a headboard that I liked when I bought it 13 years ago, so have made do with the wall.

Tegan Tue 27-May-14 09:41:01

On the subject of beds does everyone have a headboard on their bed? I ask this question cause the S.O. never has headboards [just a divan with pillows] and I find a bed without a headboard looks unfinished. I've noticed [from looking in Right Move] that some other people don't use them either. It seems really odd sitting up in bed reading a book and not having a headboard to rest against.

Ariadne Tue 27-May-14 09:27:47

Pillows and cushions for me, but just the memory foam pillow to sleep on, so all the rest get chucked on the floor. I also have a couple of sort of cylindrical pillows which I have been using under the knee while I recover. The cushions are white crocheted lace (IKEA) and the rest are white with touches of navy blue - have to confess that my bed looks lovely until I get into it and mess it up.

Lona Tue 27-May-14 09:27:36

Just one feather pillow to sleep on, as advised by my chiropractor.
I confess to a multi pillowed dressed bed, but not quite White Co.

Riverwalk Tue 27-May-14 09:04:01

I also like soft & squashy but firm! Must be synthetic fibre.

Jane I don't have a multi-article dressed bed that has to be deconstructed before you get in .... duvet and pillows for me!

janeainsworth Tue 27-May-14 08:34:37

I know what you mean about the combination of softness and firmness moomin. Does anyone confess to having an ultra-stylish, many-pillowed, multi-layered White Company type bedroom, or do we just have a duvet chucked on the bed and 2 pillows at most?

Agus Tue 27-May-14 08:33:13

Two feather for sleeping then a large square feather one with a pillow sham when the bed is made and for extra support when sitting up reading in bed.

As DH seems to dance in his sleep and crease every inch of his side, I have suggested he tries levitation. So far, no luck!
