I have just got a new gadget that I LOVE! Very simple and cost me all of £3 from IKEA. Now I can clip my undies, socks, tights etc and hang them up in the airing cupboard till dry! What's your favourite gadget? (It must save time and be simple to clean!)

We have one of the tea bag squeezers, brilliant.
Linda appears to have thrown away her favorite potato peeler (1950 vintage) she is mortified that she cannot find another exactly the same.

soontobe my electric knife is a Moulinex brand. It is very old my DH husband bought it for me over forty years ago still going strong although the white plastic is now more of a grey/yellow. I too have a glass rolling pin that you fill with ice water to keep pastry cool. It was an engagement present from a dear friend. I had ambitions to be the very best housewife EVER and my pastry would be feather light , my house would be sparkling spring fresh and I would always be a size 8 with a pristine pinafore. Then real life took over , think I used the rolling pin about six times.blush

My christmas wishlist is embarassing large this year.
The moulinex will go on my birthday wishlist!

soontobe Wed 19-Nov-14 09:48:23

embarrassing.
I have looked up the correct spelling. The word still looks wrong.

soontobe Wed 19-Nov-14 09:49:06

grrrr. Should be embarrassingly

The pincer thing for toast looks good too.
And only £1.99!

annodomini Wed 19-Nov-14 10:24:55

Toast tongs - I bought a pair when I saw them in my son's house. Lo and behold, they have given me a pair as part of my birthday presents! So I will use the older pair for redbush teabags! Don't tell them please....

A one-handed long-handled grabber-looking thing that prunes climbing roses that are high up. It picks off the stem and holds it so that you can deposit it in the barrow without getting prickled.

Double-handed silicone oven gloves that are like big mittens with a central section. They never get grease stains or scorch marks or wet through.

A multi-bladed herb chopper that picks up the choppings as it cuts them. You just put them on the chopping board, roll it back and forth and it chops and picks up. It's easy to rinse out too, which is a big plus as so many kitchen gadgets don't get used if they are tricky to clean.

A jar key. I would hate to be without it now.

I have one of those little onion comb things too. I had to use it when DBH was picky about onion having to be very fine, but he isn't so fussy now. However what I use it most for is pricking damsons and sloes before making gin. It's very useful when used with a quick stabbing motion on a large trayful.

janerowena, have you got the details of that long handled pruner, that's exactly what I have been looking for.

soontobe Wed 19-Nov-14 17:53:55

Am going to get silicone oven gloves too.
Am fed up of buying a new pair of oven mitts once a year.

Ana Wed 19-Nov-14 18:16:21

I'm going to get some too. I hate it when oven gloves get stained, and it never washes out properly.

Purpledaffodil Wed 19-Nov-14 21:23:33

I do like my silicone oven gloves because they can go in the dishwasher when dirty. However they are a tad inflexible so I often end up using a tea towel anyway.blush

soontobe Wed 19-Nov-14 21:45:48

What sort have you got?
Then the rest of us will ignore them!

janerowena Wed 19-Nov-14 22:28:24

My silicone ones came from Dunthingy Mills. Dunelm?

I got the one-handled pruners from Amazon, I shall just check back through my vast backlog of strange acquisitions purchase history.

janerowena Wed 19-Nov-14 22:33:03

Here it is.

It's amazing value, I have recommended it to lots of gardener friends and they bought so many they ran out for a while!

Ana Wed 19-Nov-14 22:34:50

I've read good reviews for the Master Class ones regarding flexibility.

Did have a look at some cheaper ones in Asda today but they do seem to be on the large side - and I haven't got particularly small hands!

janerowena Wed 19-Nov-14 22:36:26

These are the gloves, but they come in several colours, ours are blue.

They aren't too stiff.

My £6 mini chopper from Asda. So useful. Just the right size for an onion and chops like a dream. A fab little stocking filler. I popped one in lots of Christmas stockings last year. smile

We go to the Trago Mills near Liskeard, Tegen. It used to be a gunpowder factory (for the mines) and the manager was Harold Wilson's father.
Last night I went to a Pampered Chef evening, which is gadget central - as long as one has the money! I see they do an onion comb thingy.

Marmight Wed 19-Nov-14 22:51:47

A circular scissor thing with 'teeth' which slices the top off a boiled egg. Love it!

janerowena Wed 19-Nov-14 23:03:02

Where did you get yours, Marmight? Only we have one but it will only work on small eggs!

Trago Mills - we go to the one in Falmouth when we are in Cornwall. They have some very nice things. I buy bits of the cornishware usually.

Marmight Thu 20-Nov-14 12:32:05

I think my Mum gave it to me and she died 17 years ago! I doesn't work on extra large eggs but you have to make sure it's the right way up with the teeth at the bottom and then give it a good squish. I have never seen another like it but am always on the look out as I am sure it will give up its useful life soon. I wonder if Lakeland do them - if not, I will suggest it grin

Ana Thu 20-Nov-14 12:44:53

Is it anything like this, Marmight? I'm sure my granny had one, but it must have been a much older model!

Not sure of the name of my gadget from IKEA. It was one of those things that they put near the check out - just to tempt you while you wait.

janerowena Thu 20-Nov-14 20:27:51

I think we still have ours Marmight - and it looks very like the one that Ana has found so I can always send you ours!
