cleaning my ovens

I absolutely hate the job of cleaning my ovens.

Other than the horrible spray on chemicals which almost stop me breathing is there anything else which works.

I read somewhere that hand steamers can clean ovens, does anyone use a steamer with good results and if so what make is it.

By taking the top rack out, I was able to get the oven racks onto the bottom of the dishwasher, gave them the hottest wash and they came out looking pristine.

anno I have also done this with glass shelves from my fridge and f/f, making sure that the glass was at room temperature first so that it did not shatter. It worked a treat.
