About ironing jeans

So, do you iron in a crease or not? I hate jeans with a crease and never iron one in but OH still complains after 20yrs that I never put a crease in his Jeans. I also don't put a crease in his chinos, I say if you want a crease do them yourself but he never does.

I think Jeans with creases look terribly 70's so I've ironed them flat with no creases for years but I do remember putting them in years ago and a friend I had used to use spray starch to do hers and the jeans could almost stand up by themselves..

No real reason for the question just interested or is it just me?

I iron most things - my DD only irons if she really has to - her DH irons his own shirts for work - my DSs iron their own shirts also. Glad I taught them something useful. My DD tells me that she has absolutely no intention of spending her time ironing like she saw me doing throughout her childhood. I quite like ironing now - particularly as it is only for two of us and no work shirts either. Btw I also iron all jeans inside out - in fact most stuff is ironed inside out. I do itch to iron my Gs's tops sometimes, but resist as it would offend!!!!!

LL, why doesn't this surprise me smile

Me too DuNiT, and laid on the floor desperately breathing in, using the hook of a metal coat hanger through the zip pull hmm

Anyone remember putting jeans on and then getting into a bath of cold water to make sure they were skin tight? No need to worry about creases. Did I really do that Yep!!!!

I iron as little as possible and as seldom as possible. Summer is worst because all those cotton things do look better ironed. My DS2's partner is obsessive about ironing, despite having a demanding career. I wouldn't iron children's tee shirts but she does. DS2 turns his hand to it as well. Other DS does almost all the family ironing and cooking; DiL does the cleaning.

I must have been born in the wrong generation, then! grin

sherish Mon 20-Apr-15 19:40:27

Neither does my daughter. She just says 'I don't do ironing, they(DS & SIL) know where the iron and ironing board are'.

NotTooOld Mon 20-Apr-15 19:31:38

It's a generation thing, isn't it? My DD irons nothing. If my SiLwants an ironed shirt (rarely, I suspect!) he does it himself, my DS is the same. Me, I iron everything except underwear and duvet cases, just like my mother did. Jeans? Ironed flat on the wrong side - no creases.

I think a drier's more or less essential in this country! Of course I'd prefer to dry everything outside, but it's not always possible, especially in the winter, and I hate damp washing draped over the radiators.

I don't have a drier and nor do I really want one. I iron pretty much everything in sight apart from towels and underwear. I also iron a large basket of stuff for absentdaughter every week. My cotton sheets have a valance (no, thank you spell check, not an avalanche) so they are ironed too. I really don't like ironing –but I invariably do it. Jeans are ironed flat – no crease which is somehow 1970s geeky.

I don't do any ironing at all (as I've probably already said!).

I do the same as you with my Egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases, Ash Tree, I was surprised that they came out of the drier relatively crease-free.

AshTree Sun 19-Apr-15 20:42:25

I use only Egyptian cotton bedding, but I never iron it - as Pompa says, life is too short. And you only have to sleep in it once for it to be creased. I do, however, always take it from the washing machine immediately it has finished and give it a good shake out before hanging on the line. If it isn't to go straight back on the bed, then it is very meticulously folded and smoothed out before storing.
I iron as little as possible - certainly not jeans, and other trousers only if necessary! I tend to hang everything up in the wardrobe, even if it needs to be ironed, because then the worst creases drop out and it needs little more than a quick run over with the iron, just before I wear it.
I spend more time ironing fat quarters (quarter metres of patchwork or crafting fabric) than clothes grin

Not an option

loopylou Sun 19-Apr-15 19:48:16

Even better.....train your DH to do the ironing grin
Several friends have ex-forces DHs who do just that -I wish!

pompa Sun 19-Apr-15 19:45:25

Ladies, ironing bedding !!! Get a life. Get DH to take you out or get a toy boy. Life is too short to iron.

suey Sun 19-Apr-15 19:21:30

A friend of mine had to go with her husband to a formal dinner so she did her usual thing and ironed the collar , the part of the front which showed and the cuffs. Unfortunately it was a very hot night and the men were given permission to take their jackets off...............

Marmight Sat 07-Mar-15 10:37:16

Anno grin

Ariadne Sat 07-Mar-15 09:40:22

Agree about the bedding - but it has to be cotton or linen to be perfect. Not jeans. Definitely not. But then, neither of us wears them.

I do not iron , or cause to be ironed, anything apart from the bedding, that I can get away with. I have someone to do most of the ironing, especially the shirts - DH hates polo shirts (thank goodness!) and T shirts, so there is always a stack of shirts of different types.

annodomini Sat 07-Mar-15 09:36:32

Marmight, I think it's something on a cricket pitch.

ginny Sat 07-Mar-15 09:15:04

No creases in jeans or shirt sleeves here.

tanith Thu 05-Mar-15 20:53:51

So interesting all the differing views grin

Marmight Thu 05-Mar-15 20:21:18

What is a crease hmm

Minestronie Thu 05-Mar-15 19:58:22

Defo iron jeans but no lines in the middle. -smile

granjura Thu 05-Mar-15 19:20:49

loopylou Thu 05-Mar-15 18:45:51
