So, do you iron in a crease or not? I hate jeans with a crease and never iron one in but OH still complains after 20yrs that I never put a crease in his Jeans. I also don't put a crease in his chinos, I say if you want a crease do them yourself but he never does.

I think Jeans with creases look terribly 70's so I've ironed them flat with no creases for years but I do remember putting them in years ago and a friend I had used to use spray starch to do hers and the jeans could almost stand up by themselves..

No real reason for the question just interested or is it just me?

I agree Tanith it's in the same league as wearing socks (especially white socks shock ) with sandles.

I haven't put a crease in jeans or chinos for years thank heavens.

Now if only I could get away with not putting one in shirt sleeves !

Definitely not you!

Iron.

Jeans.

No, I just don't! You end up with funny white lines no matter which way you do it. I just fold them over a rack in the boiler cupboard, or hang them up outside by their hems. DD used to go mad if she thought I had ironed her jeans. I do smooth them out before I hang them to dry though, I give them a good shake.

Are you supposed to iron jeans? shock

MariClaire Wed 04-Mar-15 14:50:10

Anyone else remember ironing all those pockets on cargo shorts for our young sons? Nightmare to get pocket flaps done right.

Coolgran65 Wed 04-Mar-15 15:54:45

I iron jeans but definitely no crease !

My ds and ddil don't own an iron.
Nothing gets ironed.
Not even short sleeved shirts.
DS was going for an intervew and I think probably left his shirt into an ironing service.

I don't iron jeans, I do what janer does!

Anne58 Wed 04-Mar-15 16:46:55

Another one here agreeing with janerowena I take them out of the machine, line up the seams at the bottom of the legs, then shake hard or thrash against my own legs until they look ok (jeans, not my legs) then if the weather isn't right for hanging out, leave them over the bannisters until dry.

I'm happy most people agree with the no creases , but I also do like my jeans pressed so its horses for courses grin OH wouldn't be impressed with creased up chinos either..wink

Something I learned from my sons - just flattened them a bit when their damp and they'll be fine.
I have only had the ironing board out a couple of times in 18 months - in reality most modern garments (linen excepted) look fine within 5-10 minutes with or without ironing.

granjura Wed 04-Mar-15 18:09:37

No crease- ever. But I do iron them on reverse quickly as they feel softer.

loopylou Wed 04-Mar-15 18:48:11

On a different note re creases, my friend spent ages ironing out the creases in her daughter's shirt.....only to be told that it was crinkly material. Apparently it was irretrievably wrecked by the time she'd finished. Reminded me of cheesecloth shirts and skirts! hmm

J52 Wed 04-Mar-15 18:49:47

No creases, but I iron them, particularly around the waist band. It eases them and they are easier to do up!
Only a light touch if they have Lycra in them. x

annodomini Wed 04-Mar-15 19:01:11

Smooth the jeans, line up the seams and hang over a radiator. Same goes for my cords.
nina, when I was young, it wasn't the done thing to iron creases in shirt sleeves which is why many ironing boards were sold with sleeve boards. I don't think you ever see those on sale nowadays. It was quite a task to iron them without a crease, but that was the way my mum taught me as well as our DS teacher at school. I still feel bad about putting creases in shirt sleeves when I do a bit of ironing when staying with one of my sons.

hildajenniJ Wed 04-Mar-15 19:04:38

I do iron them, but definitely no creases. I think ironing them makes them softer. My DD shuns ironing of any kind. If SiL needs a shirt ironed, he has to do it himself.

granjura Wed 04-Mar-15 19:05:06

Still use a sleeve board for my blouses and shirts Anno.

loopylou Wed 04-Mar-15 19:07:34

Come to think of it my mum had one when I was little- I didn't realise shirts etc shouldn't have a crease!

Coolgran65 Wed 04-Mar-15 19:22:44

Hmmm.. I didn't know that shirt's shouldn't have a crease. DH would think they weren't finished properly.

One of my ds has to wear collar and tie to work, that's at lease 5 shirts, possibly more each week. DDIL also works and told him if he wanted ironed shirts he could do them himself so once a month he leaves a bin bag full of shirts into the local ironing service smile

Lona Wed 04-Mar-15 19:23:16

My mum used to work in a laundry before she married, and she always said that mens' shirts should have a crease down the sleeves and womens' blouses should never have one.

J52 Wed 04-Mar-15 19:33:17

DS always moaned about my irononggrin They ironed their own things! x

durhamjen Wed 04-Mar-15 19:56:23

The only things I iron are tablecloths.

annodomini Wed 04-Mar-15 20:58:34

I sometimes iron pillowcases because it's nice to have the smooth fabric next to my face. Mind you, after one night I might as well not have bothered!
