washing a sheepskin rug

Should be fine as long as the backing doesn't shrink!

We had a sheepskin we used for our baby, washed it regularly.

I once washed a white sheepskin rug, but it was never the same afterwards, ditto a child's panda soft toy, also a cat [ a real one.)

We put our cat in the washing machine on a cool wash, he was fine, loved it, it was the spin dryer that killed him

Should be ok. The drying is important, if it dries too quickly near intensive heat the skin will crack. When it's almost dry a cool blast of the hair dryer should fluff it up.

I use the hairdryer to finally dry the paint rollers, makes them all springy again. x

As I have added on another thread........ The washing of the rug, soft toy and cat were all hand washed, no machine!The rug was ruined completely, the fur just matted, the soft toy, a panda went all floppy, and the cat....... Having been a thickly furred long haired tabby, did look clean and shiny but looked thinner ever afterwards,never looked as luxuriant as before, I should have left well alone in all cases!

I want to know what the cat made of it!

J52, it is taking a long time to dry. I'm doing it slowly, at room temperature. I reckon it will be dry by this evening. The fluffy part is dry already and looks good.

Yes Loopy, a real cat, he had to have a bath as he had been rolling in something that looked like soft tar, however I could have trimmed off the fur with kitchen scissors, but opted to use Fairy Liquid and warm water in the bath.He had been a magnificent moggy before and ever after, although perfectly healthy, looked thin and a bit tatty.

You should have put conditioner on his fur afterwards, roses!

Conditioner always makes my hair go thin and limp, so the cat may have looked even worse!But soft, I grant you.

Volumising conditioner? Fairy Liquid is terribly drying...

If only I hadn't mentioned the cat!
