Braver than me, I still bear the scars gained from trying to bath a malevolent Ragdoll cat grin

Ana Tue 19-May-15 19:32:28

Yes, but didn't you mention the cat-washing on another thread as well? wink

rosesarered Tue 19-May-15 19:13:34

Hopefully this sheepskin thread will so go away!

Ana Tue 19-May-15 19:11:30

You'll never live it down! grin

rosesarered Tue 19-May-15 19:04:02

If only I hadn't mentioned the cat!grin

Ana Tue 19-May-15 19:02:57

Volumising conditioner? Fairy Liquid is terribly drying...grin

rosesarered Tue 19-May-15 19:00:55

Conditioner always makes my hair go thin and limp, so the cat may have looked even worse! But soft, I grant you.

Ana Tue 19-May-15 18:56:35

You should have put conditioner on his fur afterwards, roses! shock

Yes Loopy, a real cat, he had to have a bath as he had been rolling in something that looked like soft tar, however I could have trimmed off the fur with kitchen scissors, but opted to use Fairy Liquid and warm water in the bath.He had been a magnificent moggy before and ever after, although perfectly healthy, looked thin and a bit tatty.

J52, it is taking a long time to dry. I'm doing it slowly, at room temperature. I reckon it will be dry by this evening. The fluffy part is dry already and looks good.

THE CAT shock

a real one?

shock again!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 19-May-15 09:26:59

I want to know what the cat made of it!

As I have added on another thread........ The washing of the rug, soft toy and cat were all hand washed, no machine! The rug was ruined completely, the fur just matted, the soft toy, a panda went all floppy, and the cat....... Having been a thickly furred long haired tabby, did look clean and shiny but looked thinner ever afterwards, never looked as luxuriant as before, I should have left well alone in all cases!

Should be ok. The drying is important, if it dries too quickly near intensive heat the skin will crack. When it's almost dry a cool blast of the hair dryer should fluff it up.

I use the hairdryer to finally dry the paint rollers, makes them all springy again. x

We put our cat in the washing machine on a cool wash, he was fine, loved it, it was the spin dryer that killed him grin

I once washed a white sheepskin rug, but it was never the same afterwards, ditto a child's panda soft toy, also a cat [ a real one.)sad

I must get my eyes tested, I read this thread as "Washing a sheepskin dog" confused
We had a sheepskin we used for our baby, washed it regularly.

Ana Mon 18-May-15 15:09:26

Should be fine as long as the backing doesn't shrink! wink

Washing the rug in the bath was suggested. I haven't got a bath, so I took my sheepskin rug into the shower with me, wet it thoroughly and applied a zig-zag of shampoo. Then I stamped around on it and worked the lather in with my feet. Rinsed it and hung it to drip for 24 hours. I squeezed water out of the ends now and then. This morning I put it in the washing-machine for a drain and medium spin. It's now spread out on an old towel. I've combed it with my fingers, and I think it's going to look really good.

This worked for me. Quite labour-intensive certainly.
