I have a letter from Eon offering me smart meters . Does anyone here have experience of these? Can you offer me advice on the pros and, if any, cons of having them installed?

There was another thread on the safety of smart meters www.gransnet.com/forums/technology/1218578-Are-smart-meters-safe

No more radiation than mobile phones, household A/C power cables, wifi routers, and so on.

I don't think household A/C power cables are comparable in terms of emitting radiation. AFAIK.

Mobile phone manufacturers do instruct you to keep your phone away from your body.

Indeed.

Hi annodomini,

Now slowly-slowly smart meters are taking the place of old meters. And it is by Government orders that you need to replace the old meter. Last month E.ON have replaced old electricity meter of my house and placed smart meter. I called E.ON customer services here www.alwaysreview.net/reviews/eon-contact-number/ and asked the same question as placed by you. They told me in simple language that its benefit is that it will gives you correct reading and its demerit is that you have to loose your pocket even when you use tosters, press etc.
