Cleaning upstairs windows

I'm fine thank you. I don't really blame the thread! The window looks nice and sparkly. At least I had finished it when I fell down.

I have 4 big Velux windows in my kitchen to which the flies and other aphids are attracted and leave a horrible mess. I have to climb up to the very top of my highest step ladder to clean them both inside and out (as the window cleaner can't get to them - so he says). I know I should wait until someone can stand at the bottom to steady the steps, but I do take my phone up with me in case of accident

Jings At your age you should know better. Hope you are OK.

Marmight, how are you going to be able to phone anyone when you're lying unconscious after falling off the top step?

Windows here all openb inwards, so easy peasy. So for those who live abroad- how do your windows open- in or out???

I'm reading this hoping someone will come up with the name of a brilliant window cleaning device for outside upper windows. I can hardly see through ours after 20 years of very little cleaning. No chance of a window cleaner as we live in the middle of nowhere!!

I'm hoping the same! Currently, I just squirt them with the hose!

We have a window cleaner, and although he does all the windows really well, including the conservatory, he won't do the high sloping glass roof of it ( for some reason) so we use a long handled cleaning thingie from Lakeland which does the job.

I clean the inside widow with damp news paper , out side with damp news paper wrap around the mop ,as far I can reach ,the rain do the rest.

Our bedroom has two windows, one facing East the other West. The East- facing one is above the conservatory and the window cleaner can't reach it.

Like jingl I sit on the sill and reach as far round as I can. But this thread has made me wonder if I could climb out onto the conservatory roof and reach it that way.

Unless I can find a mop that reaches round corners?

Janerowena: sorry, have been away and not checked Grannet. I obviously didn't want to counternance thinking of lowly (but necessary!) household jobs when on my jollyjhol!

If it is not too late and you do see this, I bought my device at Aldi. There is a branch some six miles away from us and I usually trek there once a month as I do enjoy some of their products, which are of excellent quality and put some other brands to shame.

Oops, digress..... these devices are only available from time to time when tne shop stocks them. My husband was completely against my buying one, even 'though the price was only about £7-8 ish (can't remember the precise price but it wasn't much). For that money, as long as one has the wherewithal to hold the pole up to a first-floor window, I think it is great value and dare I say it (but only on a dry, sunny day!) good fun too.

If you would like to pm me, I would be more than happy to alert you when these devices are next on sale but you would obviously have to be within reach of an Aldi store.

Thank you! I do have an Aldi not too far away, I only go there once every month or so to stock up on certain items, so probably missed seeing them when they were in. If you see them I would be grateful - I used to get emails telling me when certain offers were available, would turn up and ours never had them!

Rose quartz - yes you're right, I am recently retired . Full of plans, weighed down under lists and generally trying to find "the best way" to manage our roles/time but I'm beginning to see that things might fall into place naturally. Thanks to all who responded - we bought a really good kit from D**e*m and it will make a big difference to us thankfully.

My sister solved part of the problem by using one of the small rollers decorators use. She found one with a handle long enough to reach the parts she couldn't. Never tried it myself but she seems happy that it cleans the bits she needs it to.

Now there's an idea - I have several of those!
