What to do with redundant light bulbs.

I have been looking online a bit and it seems the low energy bulbs which are the ones I'm replacing have mercury in them and need to be recycled not putting in the bin so I guess I will take them to the tip and see if they have a recycle bin for them.. thanks guys .

Too late now, M0nica, but I'll bear that in mind for the future. Although aren't they supposed to last for years and years now? To justify their exorbitant cost?

Freecycle or Freegle them. That is what I have done with mine.
Ana you are not meant to put them in the bin. You should recycle them in a special container at your local tip

I found a couple of boxes of the low energy bulbs sent to households years ago in the cubby-hole under the stairs recently - those horrible curly things that took half an hour to brighten...I'm afraid they went in the bin!

Plant them and see what comes up in the Spring?

I could think of what to do with the many packs of low energy bulbs OH bought and hoarded several years ago but it's not very polite. Think oscopys.
