For the first 20years of my life we spent every holiday there, never going anywhere else. So many happy memories. My gf died when I was 20. Now the house has come on the market & I would move there tomorrow. It needs an awful lot of work and is 230 miles away. Dh is hoping I will go off the idea but I can't get it out of my head. Am I bonkers to even think of it?

Thanks Monica already had a quick look but nothing for any of our old houses. I always wonder if the buyers solved the damp problem, took out the 1950s fireplaces, liked the picture widow we put in etc.,The couple who bought our old house, ripped it to pieces revealing original features, I heard, something we always wanted to do but couldn't because of money, inconvenience etc.,

I definitely think you should go and look round it asap. I think once you are inside you will know what the right thing to do is.

Has anyone apart from a developer ever bought a house with their head? We have bought all ours with our heart. None of them were ever just what we were looking for at the time.

Yes I would visit and then you will know for sure how you feel. I would not want to live in my childhood home, I hated living there and moved out the minute I could. I would not have it as a gift although I have heard that the present occupants love it.
