Only iron summer cotton tops and DGS school uniform when he stays over.
What are these orange stains that have appeared on my hands overnight?

I am sitting here with a pile of ironing - yes, that would be on a Saturday night - and wondering why I am ironing the bedsheets. Am feeling rebellious (this is what two glasses of red wine does to one). Does it really matter? Does anyone else bother ironing duvet covers and sheets or do you just put them on all wrinkly?

I fold my duvet (and my daughter's as I do all her ironing) and iron on top. It looks as if they have been ironed and takes no more effort. I find ironing a relaxing activity but hate my son in laws twisted seam jeans
Wow! This topic has set us on fire. Seems to be a 'Marmite' topic... love or hate it!
I actually enjoy ironing, sad, I know! I have recently begun to iron only one side of our duvet covers (shortcuts, you see... the thin end of the wedge? Am I now on a slippery slope of sluttishness?!) but do pillowcases and tea towels too, so perhaps I should get out more....?
One daughter irons everything and the other nothing. Can see the difference and like some other posters have, on occasions, been aching to secretly creep in and polish off a few dresses and tee-shirts.
Surely un-ironed pillow cases are all bumpy and wrinkly? Even if using the tumble dryer, ironing makes items more comfortable, no?
Obviously, we are all different (the joy of Granset) and there is no one correct answer!
I do iron my sheets, pillow cases, and Duvet covers, I love the feeling of getting into bed on nice clean ironed sheets. I do draw the line at ironing tea towels, and knickers, a friend of mine does and only recently stopped ironing socks!!!
I have to admit i do iron my Duvet covers, pillowcases, towels, in fact all washing except socks. Many of my friends think it strange as they try to do as little ironing as possible but i enjoy ironing and making my laundry look finished. My Mum was the same so it is just what i was used to but i wouldn't criticise anyone who doesn't iron bedding etc. If they are happy then why not.
Absolutely not. Pillow cases , yes. Ironing is my pet hate.
I much prefer ironing to cleaning. I don't do everything, but I do iron duvet covers, pillow slips and cotton sheets, unless they they come out of the tumble drier really crease free. I did my mother's ironing until she died 18 months ago, and I do some for both daughters when I visit, and also for my batchelor brother! I enjoy seeing a pile of ironed articles. I think if I had lived in a previous generation, I would have been a laundress!
Cleaning is done from necessity. My husband has done the hoovering since he retired 15 years ago - he has even bought the last two vacuum cleaners by himself! He is not so well now, so I realise that I will have that chore sooner rather than later, unfortunately!
I ironed a king size duvet cover today because someone else washed it and folded crumpled it. I quite like ironing but I do have a press type iron which makes life easier .....
I never iron bedding. I do iron my cotton skirts and cotton cardigans.
I never iron, never. My husband irons his own stuff and if I buy anything for me that needs ironing, it's a mistake and I end up sending it to the PDSA.
Yes I iron my bedding as they are Egyptian cotton and crease very easy x
i haven't ironed for years. In fact, I can't imagine why I ever did it in the first place. Mind you, I used to do my ironing stint in front of the Eastenders omnibus on a Sunday, and I can't imagine now why I used to watch that either!
I do too. I love getting into a fresh bed with smooth cotton sheets. I don't iron much else unless there is a good reason to ( don't often think of good reasons). ?
No, I've never ironed sheets or duvet covers (unless for the guest bed) and I only iron pillowcases on the "sleeping" side..... I've always thought that only my husband and I would see the wrinkles, and even if I ironed them, as soon as we got into bed they'd be wrinkled again! I don't iron anything that won't be seen. And since I got my "Dry Buddy" I can hang jumpers on hangers to dry in there and put them straight in the wardrobe.
Well said gulligranny! I only have white 100% cotton or linen blend bedding. I iron it because it looks nicer and feels great and gives me pleasure. I'd agree polycotton bedding probably can get away without being ironed. How strange that the pleasure I and others get from wearing ironed clothes is regarded by some as not having a life. I bet some of you spend time doing things us ironers would consider a waste of time. Each to their own I say, as long as it's legal and doesn't frighten the horses.
My mother was an inspiration. She taught me how to pull, shake and fold sheets (same applies to pillow cases, duvet covers etc) and then give the folded sheet a good stroking over. In her world, this eliminated the need to iron them - thanks mum x
I iron pillowcases, but duvet covers and sheets just get folded and ironed on each side of the folds.
My sister-in-law many years ago used to iron everything, even socks and baby`s nappies. My daughters tell me off for ironing knickers!
I think some things really need to be ironed, for comfort. Not so bad if they've had a good blow on the line, but drying on the pulley can leave laundry a bit stiff. I find ironing quite therapeutic. .
If I manage to do the washing I don't need to do much ironing as I take care hanging/folding etc. but DH often steps in to 'be helpful' and washes all sorts together, wrong temperature, never pre-treats and then hangs it all in odd ways without stretching/shaking out creases . He then treats the dry creased clothes like cut glass laying it all out, tenderly ut unfolded on top of each other so they crumple beautifully. I have tried explaining about folding things whilst still damp etc. but he know what he's doing!! He does not need my advice!!
I iron clothes, and I iron my uniform for work, but I do not and will never iron bedding. Really do not see the point. Buy a darker colour pattered cover and it does not show the creases
I iron a lot of things - I hate wrinkly clothes and an untidy bed. Doesn't take long if do it regularly and I certainly have a lot of time for other activities!
I never iron polycotton sheets and douvets but do iron pure cotton ones.
Never iron sheets or duvet covers, even for visitors, but I do iron pillowcases, shirts/blouses, trousers except for Rohans and tea towels (when I was Brownie I was told that you could use a clean tea towel to stop bleeding, and that it would be extra clean because it had been ironed, and so I still feel I should iron them - I have, touch wood, never used one for that purpose, it must be admitted
).
Has anyone else found that if you read through this thread, the word "iron" looks increasingly bizarre?
I take my sheets to the laundry, so they do get ironed. Haven't ironed anything else for years.
yes, it feels so nice when they are ironed
