Stupid question - I think.

I have just put a load of washing in the machine, and would really like to fire up the dishwasher at the same time, but I imagine there might not be enough water for both! Does anyone else do this?

(I wouldn't ask the Bodach for fear of ridicule)

Wouldn't their taking in of water just take a bit longer than usual because it wasn't flowing so fast? That's presuming it goes into a machine at full pressure/blast, which ir probably doesn't.

I don't think there should be a problem.

Try it.

pensionpat Fri 20-May-16 12:04:28

I often do this. Doesn't mean it's right though!

fiorentina51 Fri 20-May-16 12:05:28

I have both washer and dishwasher on the go at the moment and all is well.

Unless your machines are really old they will be cold fill only so as the water is coming via the mains its not going to run out any time soon. I often have both running at the same time.

GandTea Fri 20-May-16 12:19:35

It will not be a problem, even if they happen to fill at the same moment, they will just fill slower. Our problem is that both are on the same fused outlet and it both heat together, the fuse blows.

I don't think it's a stupid question. I only have one machine on the go at one time and I won't run the bath and a machine at the same time as I once somehow had an airlock which just gave me the heebie jefe bikes until it was sorted. I'm sure I'm wrong but I don't want to experiment in case I'm right iyswim.

Stansgran Fri 20-May-16 12:27:39

Heebie Jeebies stupid iPad

Linsco56 Fri 20-May-16 12:36:11

I think it would all depend on the water pressure coming from your mains supply. Ours isn't great.

Thingmajig Fri 20-May-16 12:45:08

I've just done both at the same time and no problems ... hadn't even thought about it actually! smile

ginny Fri 20-May-16 13:44:13

Often have both on with no problem.

Daddima Fri 20-May-16 13:46:23

Both now finished, with no ill effects!

Don't know if I'd make a habit of it, though.

Indinana Fri 20-May-16 13:49:41

I often do it, even though I was told by the plumber years ago that I shouldn't blush. I do usually wait, though, until the washing machine has finished filling up before turning the dishwasher on. After that, it's first come first served when it comes to taking in water grin

Luckygirl Fri 20-May-16 13:49:51

Never had a problem with doing that.

chelseababy Fri 20-May-16 14:15:23

My problem is if they both discharge water at the same time, then the drain overflows!

BBbevan Fri 20-May-16 14:30:13

Exactly chelsea , my problem also. One or the other on, not both together

ninathenana Fri 20-May-16 14:35:39

I do this all the time. I've never considered the water supply shock in fact it's not unusual for someone to be in the shower too.

cornergran Fri 20-May-16 14:48:55

Me too, often in together. No problems - so far. grin

thatbags Fri 20-May-16 14:53:01

Haha! stansgran, I rather like "heebie jefe bikes". I think I'll use that expression myelf grin

Charleygirl Fri 20-May-16 15:04:30

I frequently have both running but I allow the washing machine to fill up first before I start the dishwasher so that both are not filling up at the same time and they do not appear discharge at the same time either. I appear to have mine well worked out.

NotTooOld Fri 20-May-16 22:45:26

I often have them going together and must admit I've never given it a thought. I'm pretty sure DH (who knows everything) would have put me right if it was something I shouldn't do - he usually does.

Tizliz Fri 20-May-16 22:51:10

Dishwashers don't use much water so there shouldn't be a problem

tiredoldwoman Sat 21-May-16 10:26:47

I don't have a dish washer but am employed as a posh old house cleaner - I don't ever run two machines at one time , I'm frightened for too much water drawing in from the mains , then draining all at one time .
Same as when I'm in my own shower, I don't use the washing machine at the same time . Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember huge variations on temperatures if someone ran the downstairs tap ! Aaagh !

LullyDully Sat 21-May-16 14:58:34

Think this depends on your plumbing. We once ruined a.washing machine doing this as the mechanics were working without enough water in it.
