I'm fed up with salt grinders that clog up or stop working all together. I'm going back to an old fashioned salt cellar where you sprinkle a bit on your food. I bought from js a ready filled salt grinder that the cap came off and drenched my food....ah

DH is very good and doesn't add salt to anything, whereas I who also shouldn't either, love sea salt or coarse rock salt, but only on eggs or potato, try not to use it on anything else.

I am sorry about any of you pink Himalayan salt fans, but that stuff looks exactly like the stuff that is dug out of the salt mines of Cheshire and poured onto the roads in icy weather.
NaCl with a few other trace elements.

"Himalayan salt is predominantly sodium chloride (95-98%), contaminated with 2–3% polyhalite and small amounts of other minerals.[2][3] The pink color is due to the presence of iron oxide.[3]"

It sounds like emporers new clothes to me.

Always use Maldon sea salt, and having seen the water in the Blackwater estuary used I try not to think what may be imparting the distinctive flavour. But it was OK for the Romans, so it's ok for me.

Amazed that people are still adding salt to their food after all the advice we are given

Surely no more amazed than you are that people still smoke, drink too much alcohol and eat fatty and sugary foods...?

I like salt in porridge. I am happy to eat and drink all things in moderation, and enjoy many things that are no longer PC, but taste good. Each to his/her own.

We need some salt in the hot weather particularly if we react to the heat as I do.
I remember going with a friend who was going to work in Nigeria and on the list of essentials were salt tablets.
Lack of salt in hot weather can cause cramp.

I use very little salt when cooking, none at all with vegetables.

ps we were advised not to eat fat, butter etc etc
Now they are fine and sugar is the big no-no.

I think the key is to eat a balanced diet, preferably of fresh foods, without excess of anything. It is the hidden fats, sugars, salts etc that are the problem, many processed. prepared and junk foods are a problem. I would not eat meat without fat, it is the fat that adds flavour, topside of beef is a no no for me, rib has so much more flavour.
We don't add sugar or salt to most foods (except salt on my morning porridge)
