Yes it does, Ana - even SW France can have weeks of freezing temperatures in Jan-Feb. and we have centralheating but never have it on in the bedroom.
To go back to the OP - maybe we've missed the point that a really elderly person (I'm nearly there) has poor circulation, and does need extra protection in cold weather. So perhaps needs extra heating in the bedroom, as well as maybe a woolly hat.

I thought having heating on at night was only something Americans did. Or, to out it another way, the only people I've everknown to have heating on at night were Americans.

Oh, as a claustrophobic the thought of a nightie with a hood or a balaclava in bed is making me hyper-ventilate!

JD Williams have a fine jersey hooded nightie. Only seems to come in charcoal though.

Strangely enough, I've just been out to the shops and while driving back the thought of a balaclava came to me in connection with this thread - that would cover the neck area as well!

Might be a bit too restrictive though...

Husband wears a balaclava on cold nights. He feels the cold more than me - less hair!

She's using a headscarf some nights which I worry is more dangerous than a hood attached to a nightie. She's actually got a heater in her bedroom which is controlled by a remote so she can switch it on from her bed -,it's really good. She doesn't want it on all night though as has asthma and finds the room gets too stuffy. Maybe a chemo site will have something suitable.

I don't have this problem - with me it's my nose! I am seriously thinking of crocheting a woolly nose warmer!!?

That would also keep the room warmer if/when she got up in the night.

What about a small electric heater in the bedroom for when the temperature drops really low. I think you'll find it's not too expensive.

I agree that a hat or beanie would probably do the job. Websites that cater for chemo patients and those who have lost their hair for whatever reason supply all types of 'indoor' headwear.

Well you learn something new everyday. I had no idea such a thing existed. A hat made of a thin material would perhaps do the same job.

I fold an old cotton Laura Ashley shawl into four and fling it over my head.

When I used to camp with scouts, I wore a woollen pull-on hat at night (and often most of the day too). Perhaps a nice beanie hat would work for your mother? You can get cashmere ones nowadays.
