Smelly rug

I decided to shampoo my large rug in the dining room at the weekend using a carpet cleaning machine. It is was very light cream and rather grubby especially around the edges where it is walked over on the way in and out of the garden. Anyway it has come up lovely, almost like new, but this morning although it is bone dry, boy does it stink. Any ideas for getting rid of the smell?

Bicarbonate of soda, you might need quite a bit though. Have you tried shampooing the backing as well?

I am using a Hessian curtain in a space at the back of my garage to protect plants from frost. That does not smell very nice. Some of these sea grass rush baskets etc smell rather gone off as well.

Be careful with Febreze. That can leave its own grotty smell! Just walk into any charity shop where they use it freely.

Sometimes DH smells a bit after 'allotmenteering' . Am sorely tempted to follow Anyas advice to 'take him outside and whack him a few times to let the air in' lol !
