New Car - would you be angry?

Very much looked forward to collecting our brand new car the other day (probably our last) and when we got to the showroom the car was outside in the pouring rain. It had been raining all day and this was late afternoon.
When I protested about getting wet and examining the car in the pouring rain the car was reluctantly brought inside for us. I was so angry at this treatment. Am I just too fussy?
The car cost more than £20000.

A bit of pre- Christmas anxiety seems to have crept into this thread maybe? Too much sugar from tasting the mince pies and chocolates? Just to make sure they are up to scratch of course, someone has to do it.

Then there's perhaps the sherry, gin or whatever is your tipple is? After all it's nearly Christmas.

A Happy Christmas and New Year and Peace to you all.

Oh no - there's something called Christmas in between now and spring!

Poor thing. If it's the same one I've had I suggest you build a big den and hibernate until spring flowers

Jalima Sat 17-Dec-16 13:54:55

So you did tchblush!

I blame this virus for making my head muzzy.

Anya Sat 17-Dec-16 13:25:41

Jalima i already sussed her out! tchgrin

BlueBelle Sat 17-Dec-16 13:14:06

Well the cynic in me doesn't think either of the remarks were tongue in cheek but hey ho it sounds better when others aren't picking up on the wonder of you ( was that Elvis)

Do you need a status symbol to show you are successful I would have thought the work you do would tell whether you are successful or not but anyway I ll leave that one hanging

Anyway my take on the world is too much bloody materialism we all need to get back to basics and teach our kids and grandkids how to be contented without a status symbol

Jalima Sat 17-Dec-16 11:55:31

I think I've sussed you Lillie
Is your real name Lilibet?
tchwink

Please excuse me if I don't curtesy, my knees are playing up today.

Luckygirl I think the car cost £20,000 not £200,000 didn't it?
My eyes go a bit squiffy when there are no commas.

People stare and take pics of the OHs car. That's probably because it was built in 1937 and it's very loud.

DaphneBroon Sat 17-Dec-16 10:57:33

That is the trouble with irony, Lillie. Like Blue Belle I, and no doubt others, took your comment about a car "befitting your status" at face value. It certainly came across as genuine. hmm

J52 Sat 17-Dec-16 10:48:29

No a 4x4 bearing the badge of a once great British manufacturer! grin

Barmyoldbat Sat 17-Dec-16 10:17:53

Was it a soft top with hood down?

J52 Sat 17-Dec-16 07:13:27

DH's current car was delivered to our house. We gave the salesman a cup of coffee and a biscuit. Stopped short of a bunch of flowers, though! [ grin]

Lillie Sat 17-Dec-16 07:00:33

Sorry if I said this, Bluebelle, of course it's tongue in cheek, otherwise we would need a new thread entitled, "What is status to you?"

We all see things from our own perspective and while I derive pleasure from a new car, I don't measure others by their possessions or their achievements. In fact, unlike some on GN, I don't measure people at all. grin grin

Sometimes the person we portray is just an act, sometimes necessary in our work to show we are successful, but as someone has already said about the Queen - back home we can be content to eat baked beans from a can with a smelly dog at one's feet, that's my heaven. grin

Sincerely hope the OP is enjoying the new car. Live and let live!

BlueBelle Sat 17-Dec-16 06:18:53

What does a car 'befitting my status' mean ? gosh I do hope that was another 'tongue in cheek' sentence with another forgotten smiley. A car as a status symbol is worthless, simply a materialistic appendage I feel sorry for anyone who sets their self esteem and importance by the standard of the car they own

PamelaJ1 Sat 17-Dec-16 05:47:38

If no one bought a new car then there wouldn't be any second hand ones for us to buy.
Let's say thank you to those who shoulder the depreciation and taxes for us?

Jalima Fri 16-Dec-16 23:19:48

We were given a bottle of champagne and two champagne flutes when we bought our new house 30 years ago!

But no red carpet (no carpet at all in fact, as the carpet fitters had mis-measured!).

paddyann Fri 16-Dec-16 23:13:07

Its just a CAR Elainel ,why would you need a big production over a CAR.I think thats a problem with people today ,everyone wants to act as if they are superior...oh WE got flowers with our new car..we got a PHOTO shoot with ours. Its a CAR,its designed to take you from a to b its NOT a status symbol or a work of art.I have a friend who insists people stare at her car as she drives down the road...apparently its SO stunning.Well I've been in it and driven behind it and haven't seen anyone standing open mouthed on the kerb.Delusions of grandeur methinks !

ElaineI Fri 16-Dec-16 22:42:04

A few years ago there was a big fuss made - collect at midnight, flowers, mugs etc but now the reg changes twice a year it has changed and no longer special. It's a big deal for me getting a new car - usually Mazda 2 - and I regret that things have changed but everything has so not a lot can be done unfortunately.

thatbags Fri 16-Dec-16 21:09:57

There is that about this thread, anyone else buying a new car is forewarned and forearmed on the expensive car-buying front wink

So all's well that end's well, no?

I presume your new car is satisfactory, estella, even if the showroom treatment wasn't? Hope so, anyway.

thatbags Fri 16-Dec-16 21:07:31

More tongue in cheek, just in case anyone's uncertain ???

thatbags Fri 16-Dec-16 21:06:25

Mind you, you'd be able to tell if it had been well-waxed outside in the rain. Six and half a dozen.

thatbags Fri 16-Dec-16 21:05:25

Sorry if I missed it, but did the OP say she was angry enough to ask the car salespeople to take the car indoors and wipe it down so that she could inspect it in comfort? For the price quoted, such a request ought to have worked.

Shazmo24 Fri 16-Dec-16 20:58:07

As soon as you left the showroom it lost the 30% of the price you paid. ..its a car for goodness sake

Ana Fri 16-Dec-16 20:45:49

tchgrin maggiemaybe - love the 'considerably richer than yow' quote!
