I was listening to the radio and there had been a survey about how often do you wash your bed linen. I was shocked at the results as the majority of single men wash their bed linen four times a year!! the majority of single women wash theres every 3-4 weeks.
Im single and do mine every week and my mother was the same. Am I a clean freak grin

I wash our bedding weekly, towels about twice a week ... we tumble them after showering ... but I wash the hand towels every other day. I dread to think how long DH would leave before washing the bed stuff, or any stuff come to think of it! hmm

The spare bed stuff gets washed after being used and then again to freshen it up before visitors ... mostly cos I love a fresh bed myself so feel the need to inflict it on others! grin

I change my bedding twice a year whether it needs it or not! Seriously though in an ideal world I would have clean sheets and pillow cases every week but as this isn't necessary they get done when I think it's needed. Tea towels several times a week and hand towels a couple of times. No routine though. I am no slave to housework as long as everything is put away in its place and doesn't obviously look dirty. Life is for living

Towels every other day.. Normally bottom sheet and pillow cases weekly, quilt cover every two weeks.

Bed linen weekly just like my mum did, and now my daughters do the same.

Lilyflower Wed 14-Dec-16 16:35:11

My Dh and I love clean sheets and I do the bedding weekly on Fridays. I put clean sheets and pillowcases on my son's bed every week but turn his duvet over so I anly wash it fortnightly.

When my son went to university we bought him new bedding. He bought it home having used it for a YEAR unwashed. His sister and I took it to the dump with the car windows wound down. We also threw away the duvet. Utterly disgusting.

Now, however, though he doesn't show any signs of doing it himself, the DS seems appreciative of my efforts.

Rosina never thought of putting dry sheets in dryer to smooth them, have I got that right? I use pairs of sheets so don't have to wash duvet, fortnightly.

Caroline123 Wed 14-Dec-16 16:24:24

Bedding once a fortnight, more often in summer.towels every couple of days.

Luckygirl Wed 14-Dec-16 16:17:13

Ah Diddy1 - a lady after my own heart! smile

If I could afford it and had someone to do it for me I'd have clean bedding every day.
My DM used to say that often vq!

As it was, our sheets got 'topped to bottomed' each week ie, the top sheet went on the bottom and a clean sheet on top although I think that was just for the DC, DP's sheets were both changed each week.

Elegran, they're neither smelly or dirty - it's a personal preference thing by my DIL - not my choice.

I'll do as you suggested - leave a pile of sheets in their room. They can decide what to do.

I have top & bottom sheets on the bed these get changed twice a week with the pillowcases. Don't iron them if they've been in the dryer straight back on the bed. Quilt cover fortnightly.I love clean sheets on the bed.

Hand Towels every day. Bath towels every 2 days.
Change guest rooms after each visit.Find that's easier, if they arrive last minute I'm then not rushing to change the bed as well anything else that needs doing.

Elegran Wed 14-Dec-16 15:55:17

Typo - should be "more power IN the last year"

Elegran Wed 14-Dec-16 15:54:25

onneker My thoughts too. It wouldn't surprise me if we collectively have used more power than the last year than in any century of the past. We just can't go on snowballing our use of non-renewable energy, and even renewables cost a lot to run. Our great-great-grandchildren will look back on the 21st Century as the era that squandered the earth's resources on frivolities.

And so many people in the world have no access at all to easy hot water or any other amenities, yet so many others feel they can't be happy unless they use them non-stop "because I'm worth it".

BRedhead59 Wed 14-Dec-16 15:52:25

When I was working full time I somehow managed to wash sheets every two weeks now I'm retired I don't have time for all that and it can go a month or five weeks!!!

Hollycat Wed 14-Dec-16 15:32:45

Always towels twice a week. Bedding once a week in winter, twice a week in summer.

marionk Wed 14-Dec-16 15:22:04

Bottom sheet and pillowcases weekly, duvet cover every 3 weeks, towels at least once a week.

onneker Wed 14-Dec-16 14:58:05

Reading Gransnet often makes me feel freaky and weird but I call it doing anthropology as I slink away into a darkened corner. I did wonder about the environment with all this incredible washing. Imagine how much electricity we could save if you only did half as much.

Judthepud2 Wed 14-Dec-16 14:38:29

Bedding fortnightly unless one of us is ill and sweaty. Towels twice weekly but in the kitchen every other day.

I am due a family influx for Christmas which means stripping and laundering 8 lots of bedding. ? I only remake them when someone is coming to stay.

The dog likes to help with bedding laundry!

Legs55 Wed 14-Dec-16 14:34:19

Lilylilo I'm with you, slept nude since my late teens (apart from in Hospital)tchblush

I change my bedding about every 2 weeks & shower at night so I'm clean when I get into bed (no night sweats)

Towels when needed, kitchen towel when a wash goes on, tea towel same as I rarely dry up tchhmm

I have no washing line at the moment & have to rely on washer/dryer so use only when I have a load (watching the "smart meter" showing how much electricity I'm using !!!!!) - I'm concerned at use of resources & cost to me.

I live on my own now & have no spare room so my habits have changed from when DH was alive & we had larger properties tchgrin

kittylester Wed 14-Dec-16 14:32:10

I'd just like to point out that DD rarely stays more than 2/3 days and it is usually the same daughter so the bed doesn't need changing every time.

Another daughter and I decided that, if we could afford have our beds changed daily, we wouldn't. We'd have it done on alternate days just so it was noticeable - more enjoyment that way!

TriciaF Wed 14-Dec-16 14:15:39

Not telling! blush
But I do have a bath every night.

sarahellenwhitney Wed 14-Dec-16 14:14:45

I spend one day a week washing every thing I have used that week that is ok to be washed and not dry cleaned.
My pets bedding gets washed every day.Does that count?

BlueBelle Wed 14-Dec-16 13:49:50

You wouldn't in my house Lilylilo

Grangegran1 Wed 14-Dec-16 13:46:23

Oh My, keeping quiet here! Shower every day so feel bedding is kept fairy clean, times runs away and one forgets! Not in a routine about changing the bed- once every 2-3 weeks I think, towels more regularly.
