Cheats way to clean floor

I have one of those whizz mops where you get a mop (round with spiral cloth bits) also a bucket that you fill with water/detergent and dip mop in then put soaking wet mop in drainer and push button with foot so centrifugal force lets water escape and you have a damp mop for washing the floor. All good but, in my case the bucket is under the sink so stuff has to me moved to get it out and I wouldn't say I'm lazy, but if I can find a quicker way to do things I will.

Anyway what I do now is, I have filled a spray bottle with liquid floor cleaner and water and I just spray this on the floor then wipe over with the mop. Done in half the time and from what I can see just as good.

I bought a Vax steam mop, had to send it back as it stopped spraying, i have had 2 more since all replacements
I have given up now, just use a mop and bucket, but will look into some of the suggestions above

Today I cleaned a dusty bathroom floor by wetting one of the old face flannels I use for cleaning, and pushing it around the floor with my foot. Did stop to rinse it off now and then.
Couldn't be bothered to fetch mop and bucket from downstairs. Not that I'm bone idle or anything...

Luckily my OH does our floors, mopping and vacuuming. He does most of the ironing too. Guess I must be spoilt. blush

This is all very informative and helpful, everyone, thanks. I'm just about to hit the shops and do a physical investigation. Here's hoping I make the 'right' decision whatever that is.!

When I was first married we moved into a house with a tiled floor which required applications of a polish called Seel.
One day I decided to strip off all the old polish and redo it from scratch. There I was in ancient pair of baggy pedal pushers and an old T shirt on my hands and knees when my husband arrived bringing his boss home for a cup of tea.
Things between us were a bit strained that night ! !

I have a scooba (floor washing robot)... Love it!I just have to manually do the edges and corners occasionally.

I mistakenly bought textured vinyl flooring, and its terrible to keep clean as all the muck gathers around the little bumps. I bought a long handled decking brush and spray the floor with a cleaning product, giving it a scrub with the brush and then mop. I do a yard strip at a time until the whole floor is done. In between I just mop it as normal

I use wipes and my foot everyday and once a week wink or so I get on my hands and knees and use detergent and bleach and give a thorough clean. I have a steam cleaner but found is was breaking up the grout between the ceramic floor tiles

I use a mop with spray bottle like Heather's - with a laminate cleaner, left in it until it has all been used up. I am very pleased with it. Used to wax polish unglazed quarry tiles every week on my knees - they looked good afterwards - but am more than happy with current laminate and more precious time.

Does anybody know of floor wipes that dont leave a sticky/tacky residue?

merlotgran Mon 15-May-17 12:50:47

Argos have them on offer, TrendyGran at £49.99. I'm tempted as well.

Steam cleaner I got from Lakeland is excellent. As it is steam it is dry in no time at all. Very quick to use & you can walk on floor almost immediately.

I have a robot type hard floor cleaner (like those robot vacuums) for my large kitchen. It wets, scrubs and dries the floor. Love it, just set it going and come back to a nice clean floor!

I use a mop with an attached spray bottle, similar to the Bono, but half the price from the supermarkets. It's made by Addis. I leave the diluted cleaning liquid in the bottle between washes and it's always ready for a quick wipe over the floor. The micro fibre mop cover comes off and pops in the washing machine when needed.
Anything for an easy life!

I find it so much easier to let my DH wash the floors. In exchange I do the ironing :-)

ie'don't put off having another pet.'.

sarahellenwhitney Mon 15-May-17 10:57:03

angelab The instructions do say keep pets off until dry so if my pet is going to be around before my floor is dry, though it doesn't take long, I then put a couple or more 3ply paper towels under the mop and go over the wet areas.Don't put off having another pet as you can overcome this issue of using floor wipes.
I would say that floor wipes are less potent than something out of a bottle or aerosal

Sheilasue Mon 15-May-17 10:56:36

I have a steam cleaner, so easy, and it's just hung on a hook in the hall cupboard.

Cagsy Mon 15-May-17 10:50:17

I'm still working Liz- so still have a cleaner, thank God wink

moobox Mon 15-May-17 10:46:15

For small floors a wet microfibre cloth pushed round with my foot works as a good catlick!!

sarahellenwhitney Mon 15-May-17 10:40:31

lilyflower what a glutton for punishment you are.
The impression is that deep down you love what you are doing by the words 'looks sensational' So other than advising you pay another to do it or they do it out of kindness or love? then you are 'stuck' with it.
