Hot water, if so why?

Evening all, and good wishes to you.

Cleaning the laminate floor today in the kitchen and hall, as I was getting the mop and bucket ready, I was aware that I was running the tap until it was hot, before adding the detergent.

Do you think the water does need to be hot for cleaning floors, bearing in mind that cleaning stuff will be added to the water?

Get down on your hands and knees with a floor cloth and a bucket of Flaskh. You can wring the water out of the cloth and the floor will dry quicker.
Then lay sheets of newspaper in case anyone wants to walk on the floor before its dry.
Well, that's what my mum always did. What about yours?

I would use those white magic sponges.... need to use damp. I cut them into smaller blocks as they wear down with use. Very little that they do not shift ... gently and with no chemicals. I use on leather bags, chairs, wallpaper.

Oh dear - am I deviant too? grin

My problem is cleaning the parquet floors here. I have bought liquid and impregnated cloths both of which say they clean these floors, but nothing makes any difference. Small marks (e.g. GS dropping bits of food) stay stubbornly there; and any water drops leave a mark. I just go with the flow now and let it lie!

Just put your tin hat on and ignore them.
Or in my case, don't bother with tin hat, just ignore.

Heaven forfend!

annsixty Fri 14-Jul-17 12:27:23

Well you might get sent to the naughty step or just told to stick to the script.

Kim19 Fri 14-Jul-17 11:44:49

Aaah.......so there is a protocol of sorts....it's just a case of waiting until somebody shares. Thanks very much annsixty and...... would you define 'trouble' for me as in your above post, please?

annsixty Fri 14-Jul-17 11:25:49

Just start your posts with" just to deviate a little " and end with" now back to the OP"
That gets me out of trouble.?

Kim19 Fri 14-Jul-17 11:09:18

Now you're making me laugh MOnica and I'm not sure how appropriate that is on a scale of 1 to 10!

Thanks........

M0nica Fri 14-Jul-17 09:57:06

Is there a protocol? No-one told me. Threads often have 'asides' that last a few posts and then return to the main stream.

Is this post a deviation?

Kim19 Fri 14-Jul-17 07:59:07

Thank you all. I was unaware of the rigid protocol but grateful to those who 'risked it' for me I will try to mend my ways both here and with the Karcher!!

vickya Thu 13-Jul-17 23:06:50

Kim19, I did realise I was deviating, but it was this particular post and thread that made me think umra and grans would like each other, so it felt right to post here.

Ignore the thread police. I love my Karcher, best window cleaning ever. Your not putting enough pressure into it, and it doesn't matter which way you work it.

Esspee Thu 13-Jul-17 21:09:37

Kim19 and Vickya
You have not received responses as it is not done to change the subject of a thread (though sometimes we do go off at a tangent.smile)
It is easy to start your own thread, why not do that and I am sure you will get interesting replies.

BlueBelle Thu 13-Jul-17 20:43:10

I don't have any of these things i don't know what Karchers are I just use a bucket of water and a cloth on my knees and I don't have any laminate floors so no knowledge there I have two vacuum cleaners but prefer sweeping the floors and carpets
I too like radiocalnans idea I do as little housework as I can get away with

Blinko Thu 13-Jul-17 19:59:44

Best idea, as Radicalnan says is to get a cleaner. Except my lady can't seem to get on with the Vileda spinning mop and bucket set. back to the non tech version, then confused

Humbertbear Thu 13-Jul-17 15:58:58

I'm with Radicalnan. I've no idea how to clean my hardwood floor or operate my vacuum cleaner.

Oriel Thu 13-Jul-17 14:15:12

I seem to remember that using hot water to clean is more efficient due to the difference in the molecular structure and surface tension in water between it being hot and cold. I think the water when heated reduces the surface tension but I can't remember exactly.

RosemaryAnne Thu 13-Jul-17 13:56:45

That was for radicalnan by the way

RosemaryAnne Thu 13-Jul-17 13:55:30

Best advice ever

Lindajane Thu 13-Jul-17 13:22:33

Thanks for this thread! I've got dogs and a lot of hard floors including laminate. Mopping is too wet but I've just reserved a vileda spin mop!

M0nica Thu 13-Jul-17 13:19:33

The advantage of hot water is that it will soften any sticky or greasy deposits on the floor like drips from sugary drinks or spills from plates.

Sheilasue Thu 13-Jul-17 12:53:47

I have a steam cleaner for hard floors and carpets, not so great on carpets though. It's only small very light and cleans the kitchen, hall, and dining area and is so easy to use.

JackyB Thu 13-Jul-17 12:45:37

I clean everything with water as hot as possible. It dries quicker, and I think cleans better. If the water cools off half way across a floor, I change it.
