BT and sky

I have had sky television for 17 years now, I can be precise as I was told this morning by their very helpful call handlers.
My phone and broadband has been with BT for 2 years next month. Their charges have gone up and up with no explanation and I am currently paying over £70 a month to them.I have rung sky this morning to ask about getting both services from them.
Long story short my total bill has been halved for TV , phone and unlimited broadband.
I am now worrying that I have not totally understood or left something off!
Has anyone else made savings like these?

Wouldn't be without HD now!

We have Sky HD, broadband (fairly slow here) and telephone. We do not have sport or movies. We pay about £78 a month. I had thought of going for SkyQ. Has anyone had this? I haven't checked how much extra it costs.

pittcity good luck with getting a reduction out of Virgin! I've been a customer for over 2 years and of course after the introductory period the price went up - and up and up.. I rang a couple of times but have never been able to get a reduction in price other than by reducing the components of my package. I'll be interested to hear how you get on!

annsixty this may also apply to your price reducti0n, i.e. you have a special reduced price for the first 3mths, 6mths whatever..

Devongirl,
Virgin finally offered me a reduction when I changed to talktalk!
I had phoned them a few times in the last few years, to ask if there was anything I could do to reduce my package, but they claimed there wasn't.
Just before the change went ahead, they phoned to offer a price match, which was almost half what they were charging. I declined.

devongirl I was told this price would apply for 18 months. I will read the small print when the welcome pack arrives.

When we moved here 10 years ago we tried to get the complete Sky package but were told it was not available here. There is no cable, so we have phone & broadband from BT and TV from Sky (we only really have that as it's the only way DH can watch his beloved cricket).

devongirl we've been with Virgin since they were NTL, about 14 years.....we would need to get a new aerial for Freeview and reception is pants here. Virgin's broadband is hard to beat and DS is a computer gamer.
So we really don't want to leave.
We just ask for the offers that new customers can get by telling them that we will leave. It has always worked until now.

Update.
I have just rung BT to cancel BT Sport.
They can't believe I want to leave them so they will see what they can offer me!!
If I agree to stay with them for 18 months they will cut my monthly bill from £46 to £26. So why am I currently paying them £72 ? Ah well...
I am still going to sky.

Pittcity I tried that, didn't work for me, I think I didn't sound convincing enough! It's annoying though: I want to stick to Virgin because BT internet where I live has an awful rep wheas with fibre it's fine.
