A whole roll per day!

This might seem alarming but we appear to be using 1 whole roll of ( the one that puppies love) toilet roll Per Day! How can this be?
Although I have noticed that instead of 240 sheets per roll there are now only 200, but that is 100 sheets each!
Maybe the sheets are smaller?
I can’t understand how or why, I will investigate further, maybe DH is using it for other purposes?
If so it will have to stop him, this stuff isn’t cheap!
Sorry about the excessive quantity of exclamation marks.
Maybe I should get out more......

I take it there are no puppies around...

I notice the use of loo roll when the GC have been!!!
Perhaps it's time to 'bring out the Bronco' - great for tracing paper too!!!

What a relief - I thought it was me! I’m amazed how many sheets I use nowadays. I’ve no brand loyalty so buy whatever soft rolls are on offer. Will look out for Nicky’s though.
My livein grandmother always preferred Izal and thought our newfangled 1960s soft loo rolls were inadequate. We kept Izal too just for her. Of course shiny council paper was still provided in schools etc. for a long time, as was red carbolic soap. That institutional soap had a mention on Call the Midwife when a longlost sister was traced to a 1960s mental hospital.
In the 60s our LCC classrooms each had a roll of shiny paper. Children who needed it would run across the playground to the (roofless?!) lavatories with a paper banner streaming over their shoulders! I wonder when schools swapped to soft paper! How memories fade.

Perfumed? Maybe not Nicky’s then! Nor coloured nor bleached if possible ...

When my sons lived at home I cant begin to tell you how much toilet roll we went through....and I never did find out(apart from the obvious) why so much!

gillybob Sun 04-Mar-18 12:02:11

Oh I thought this thread was about the bread shortages ?

gillybob Sun 04-Mar-18 12:03:33

I remember wrapping Izal around a comb and making an instrument. It tickled your lips smile

VIOLETTE Sun 04-Mar-18 12:26:38

I am one of those who uses loo roll like it was going out of fashion .....anything and everything ! when I first moved in with my second husband he enquired as to whether I was eating it .........cheek !! I now use Lidl pink and white one ..its great ! others are too thin ...even that one the puppies like ....mind you, the cat has no preference and if him indoors doesn't close the toilet door (thinking of getting a self closing thing for it !) they will play havoc with the roll..........grin

Oopsadaisy12 Sun 04-Mar-18 13:39:08

Oh gillybob?

Oopsadaisy12 Sun 04-Mar-18 13:39:52

Don’t get me started on how much bread we get through ! That’s a whole new subject....

Kim19 Sun 04-Mar-18 14:38:54

I was taught the how the roll was dispensed affected consumption. Feed out over - less consumption than pulling from under (or behind). Try it. Won't do any harm.

shysal Sun 04-Mar-18 14:51:11

Kim19, I noted that in Yogagran's photo the rolls were hung in what I consider to be the wrong way. It seems unhygienic to be scrabbling against the wall for the free end.

We also sometimes use Nicky or sometimes Saxon which we buy from Aldi. The sheets are thicker.

Saggi Sun 04-Mar-18 16:18:03

The only time I used a whole toilet roll in one day was when I found my 7 year old grandson had wrapped up his 2 year old sister in practically the whole roll while she was cavorting all over the house like the Andrex puppy!!! I never let them watch the adverts now!!!

Barmeyoldbat Sun 04-Mar-18 16:54:40

We tend to use a lot of toilet paper when the gc come to stay but I now buy it in bulk from groupons, the latest order being for 90 rolls,

Smithy Sun 04-Mar-18 17:00:25

Don't worry about it, in the scheme of things its not a big deal (unless you are really really cash strapped)
Ugh, that Izal stuff was horrible, thank goodness for Andrex etc.

Oopsadaisy12 Sun 04-Mar-18 17:35:55

Your right, of course it isn’t a big deal, until I go to the cupboard and find that the last roll has gone and i have to travel 4 miles to the nearest small shop to get replacements.

Legs55 Sun 04-Mar-18 18:27:10

I do agree all paper products are thinner now. I have very sensitive skin & find Andrex doesn't cause me any problems although I have noticed I'm using a bit more but as there's only me it doesn't make much difference.

DH when he was doing deliveries around London if he had to stop & use the loo he had to cover the seat with toilet paper before he could sit downhmm. This habit continued at home at timesconfused

jocork Mon 05-Mar-18 00:26:56

I remember Izal - we had it at home when I was a child. I didn't realise you could still buy it. Maybe some prefer it as it is medicated. My preference is for cushelle but I try to stock up when it is on offer. Never heard of Nicky but maybe I'll give it a try if I see it anywhere. As for Andrex, whatever the ads say it is not strong enough - too thin unless you use lots of sheets!

I live alone, but with help from visiting DC and DGC I get through 8-10 rolls weekly.
DD is afflicted with OCD, and uses it to clean the toilet as well as herself, DGD sits on the loo happily singing and making paper roses to decorate the bathroom, and DSiL has allergies, so is often in there snuffling and blowing his way through a roll.
It’s never really bothered me, but now I come to think of it, we must be a rather eccentric lot, as well as wasteful!

Tegan2 Tue 06-Mar-18 00:15:49

Why didn't Izal cause blockages confused; this is one of lifes unsolved mysteries for me....

ladyjane10 Thu 15-Mar-18 22:14:33

When my lot were using 2 rolls a day I turned to good old IZAL It works 100% End of problem.

Oopsadaisy12 Fri 16-Mar-18 08:49:06

Seems a bit like cutting off my nose to spite my face ladyjane, I don’t want to use Izal! Unless you’re suggesting I have my own private stash of the soft stuff? I doubt whether I could sneak around with that it my jeans pocket!

Luckygirl Fri 16-Mar-18 09:04:10

The first time DD2 wiped her own bottom by herself she was gone a long time. When I went to investigate she was sitting on the loo with a cloud of pink toilet paper around her - like a flower fairy sitting on a pink rose! She thought you had to use the whole roll!!!

Jalima1108 Fri 16-Mar-18 21:06:45

Does anyone else remember the toilet roll shortages?

Not a single roll to be found on the shelves anywhere and when they came back into the shops, the price had gone up by quite a lot (double? at least)
My sister worked at a distribution company and apparently there were stores of toilet rolls in the warehouse, being held back - presumably until people were desperate and happy to pay a much higher price.
