I am going to have to employ a woman to do my cleaning. What is the rate of hourly pay? Please.

Maybelle Fri 27-Jul-18 10:19:50

I have employed a cleaner some years ago, did this through an agency, or Molly maids or similar cannot remember now.
Advantage was they were insured and checked by the company. And if "my cleaner" was off or on holiday , then a replacement cleaner was detailed to me.
They had keys so I didn't need to be there.
Hourly rate ? Too long ago to recall but most agencies will give no obligation quotes on request.

It may depend on where you live, £10 per hour is the usual in the south east.

I pay an agency £26 per month and am supposed to give the lady they supply £8.75 per hour but I give her £20 per week as she's so good. That works it out at about £13 an hour but worth it to me for a good service, insured and refs checked etc.

I'd say around £8 an hour in the Midlands. That's what we pay our 'lady who does' for us anyway.

£8.75 is the 'living wage'. Blinko - you'd better hope your lady doesn't read this thread!

I pay my "girl who does" £18.50 for two hours cleaning and give her a packed lunch she also gets holiday pay and my OH does her accounts for free....

I am in SE Essex and use a local cleaning company. I pay £28 a week for this I get two delightful ladies for 1 hour, they clean 3 bathrooms, master bedroom, lounge, dining room and kitchen. They alternate cleaning the other bedrooms.

Jane10, that's cash in hand....

I clean for three people. First one who is a friends Mum, she pays me £8 an hour but I also get very cheap haircut from my friend so happy with cheap rate. Wouldn't do it for that with anyone else.
The second one pays me £20 for two hours although I only actually work about and hour and half as we catch up on all the gossip first lol.
The third one pays me £11 an hour.

I used to have another lady (unfortunately passed away 2 years ago) who I was with for years, she would regularly put the money up and ended up at £25 for two hours.

It's well worth paying for a good reliable person who does a good job.
Before I had the current lady I had a number of people who had clearly not had any training or had any idea what to do!
The best ones I've had from the agency (including my current one) were all ex hotel chambermaids. By golly they do a great job and the beds look so professional somehow I can't make them look like that! The current lady uses her initiative and often spots things that she could be doing within her 2 hours along with everything else. Money well spent!

Also ask locals, friends and relations for recommendations.
And Bijou - don't tell me you've been doing your own cleaning up to now shock.

I had a very good lady who also became a good friend but her mother died and she now has to care full time for her father.
I do now have another lady who lives in the villlage and I posted really to know what the going rate is. I pay her £11.50 an hour with which she is happy. I pay her petrol and time if she has to take me for appointments.
I only have a small bungalow.
I understand that the rate varies according to location.

I pay £35 for a morning's cleaning and the village gossip. My cleaner has worked for us for about 10 years and just gets on with whatever needs doing without supervision. We are in East Mids.

I can do most of my own cleaning still but once every 6 weeks I have a lady come in to move out the bed/sofa's/cooker/fridge freezer etc all the big heavy stuff and pay her £30.00 for about 2.5 hrs,she also takes down my curtains when they need changing and pay her accordingly.

I pay mine £11/hour. She is wonderful. I’ve known her for years, never have tell her what to do and enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat if I’m around.
She has a key to the house, I trust her implicitly. I am so lucky.

You're all talking about "a woman" or "a girl". Some cleaners are men. It can be an exhausting physical job.

we pay £12 per hour for Agency cleaners and £10 an our for a private cleaner. We have had cleaners for 20 years and think the extra you pay an Agency is well worth the money.
