What small item has transformed your home?

A small white Westie. I had lived here for 10 years and knew and spoke to about 3 people. I have had Tilly for 31\2 years now and we meet many people in the course of our walks. She was a breeding dog before I had her and now spends her time relaxing on a warm comfy couch sleeping, getting cuddles and she is going to the primary school today on her regular visit as a Therapy Dog. The children love seeing her once a week. She has certainly changed my life.

Was very lonely & miserable when i lost the last boy of the two cats i had adored for nearly 15years. Home was dull & quiet. Then two beautiful girl cats needed a home, moved in & took over. Happy bright cheerful home again!

Replaced 3 radio's, alarm clock, kitchen timer ,add things to shopping list(we both can add ) , intercom no more shouting round house ,reminders for appointments, and one other thing that used to drive me mad slight delay on radio in separate rooms all in sink now

A motor-driven blind for my hard to reach kitchen window!

A set of wind chimes - not too big (certainly not those monsters that some people hang on trees and clang, clang, clang annoyingly) but just large enough to produce a calming sound not unlike water trickling into a fountain.....brill!

My InSinkerator boiling water tap is the best thing ever!

Other boiling water taps are available, by the way, but hugely more expensive!

How small is small??
A small log burner in our sitting room which proved invaluable this time last year during the Beast from the East, when our boiler packed in.

A new, and beautiful kettle. So well designed, so simple and lovely it makes me smile every time I use it.

My granddaughters bought me a wooden plaque from Cornwall, painted on it is star fish, a sea horse and the words
‘As free as the ocean’, reminds me of happy times at the coast and I love ‘free’

I bought a couple of pretty white net curtains for both of my front rooms, with a simple floral design from J Lewis. One's upstairs in the spare room and the other in my tiny kitchen. They look clean and fresh - a heck of a contrast to the ghastly old ones I had before. It took a bit of effort to get the attachments in place but was worth it.
And something even more mundane - a new pale blue washing-up bowl (Joseph Joseph) which has a drainer in the centre. It makes doing the dishes slightly less dreary.

A runner for my pan cupboard. The bliss of not having to rummage around in the cupboards bent double for pans, banging and clanging and the dogs running for cover.

A dark wood ty stand. Our lounge is traditional with a dark wood fireplace and dark windowsill. I looked everywhere for a wood tv stand but they were all light coloured. Then I happened to be in a charity shop and there was my perfect tv stand for £40. They are £179 new in the shops. It's ideal and looks so good in the room.

I wasn't going to put mine as they aren't a small item but, as others have put blinds, I will. We bought a bungalow with a lovely park across a fairly busy road. I had the dilemma of what to put up at the windows as both windows are in the bedrooms. I didn't want nets or anything that stopped a clear view and found blinds that slide down and stay where you want them (they easily click out for window cleaning). I have them just over halfway up and can see into the park but people passing cannot see in. We've had them for about 4 years now and definitely our best buy.

A long shoe-horn! Since my arthritis kicked in, last year, I have had more and more difficulty with putting on my shoes. Oh, the groans as I struggled the get my heel into the pesky things! Now it just takes a couple of painless tweaks.

Does anyone know of a gadget that cuts toenails without me having to bend?

Plantation shutters are expensive,
Had a quote two years ago for around £800 pounds each for a medium size windows.

Would still buy if I could afford them.

I bought two Ikea memo boards with all the bits to go on it for above a breakfast bar in the kitchen. I love it, I put special ticket receipts on it, post cards, and anything special I love it, I can see them all the time where they are.
