Hi, my daughter is getting married in 2 months and i can't find a suitable dress to wear. I'm a size 18 and like a dress with sleeves. Any ideas of where i can find a nice dress please.

I recently bought a beautiful dress from Debenhams- on- line - it is by "Hot Squash."
I am an size 18 BTW

Iam a size 18 and I got a lovely flattering dress from phase eight. It wasn’t a typical mother of the bride dress as thats just not me. The staff in the shop were wonderful they found me a matching hat, bag,and pashmina, everything matched and was reasonably priced.
Shoes from Mand S.Hope you find just what you are looking for

Without a budget, or any idea of style, difficult to suggest something suitable, but I would also recommend eBay. Just bought an amazing once worn Hobbs silk red white and navy dress with plain navy cropped silk jacket for £40!

sanders hasn't given any clues as to the sort of edding or thing she likes or her shape.
Please come back and help us be helpful!

I Just don't feel "me" in the structured "mother of the bride" outfits for example. Some makes don't fit me properly (e.g. Monsoon), and some things won't work for certain types of wedding.

I bought from Chesca online for my son’s wedding, as I was ‘ a bit more padded’ then, certainly not cheap but I felt really great and had many compliments.

I would have a look at sites in the USA - since my son moved there to marry my d-i-l I have had several sites recommended by her and they have beautiful dresses.

How about this Cornelli dress and shrug at J D Williams priced at £78. They have size 18 and it would look good for other occasions too. Not too fancy but fancy enough for weddings or dinner out etc.

hopefully an image of said Chesca dress will be attached

I got a lovely creamy/ivory dress and jacket with splashes of colours on from Chesca, wore it to two family weddings last June and August, just changed the accessories. Bought it from John Lewis online.

Another fan of Roman here. I bought a lovely dress from them for a wedding last year.

Hi you don’t say where you’re based but There’s a great shop in Jesmond near Newcastle, if you like in the North East they have a large stock of outfits for all shapes and sizes, they also do hats, shoes and bags. Masses to try on and no pressure

You could do worse than to browse TKMaxx online. If you sign up for their emails you get 24 hours advance sight of "new in" goods. They have loads of occasion dresses in all sizes, many from well-known makes like Gina Baconi etc. and you can see everything they've got without the fag of sorting through the offerings in the shops. The prices are amazing, and there's no quibble about returns and refunds.
I swear by them!

'Roman' do some beautiful clothes and go up to larger sizes , Wallis do too.
Good luck , hope you find something wonderful

I'm a huge fan of Bombshell which are perfect for all sizes but particularly well designed for the curvier lady. They're beautifully made & very flattering and many of the styles have sleeves. I also like Gina Bacconi, who offers lots of styles to suit all figures and tastes. Neither are cheap but both worth the money for a special occasion . Personally , I'd steer clear of the high street - Phase Eight, Jacques Vert etc as you don't really want to meet a wedding guest wearing "your" outfit on the big day.

I bought a lovely dress at Monsoon last summer for my nephew's wedding. Have fun looking and enjoy your day.

Roman Originals always have a good choice of dresses and jackets. They will have some nice colours in for spring/summer and they don't cost an arm and a leg

okimherenow Mon 11-Mar-19 16:06:39

I see loads of stuff online which looks tempting but for a big occasion I want to try it on and make choices

Would definitely go to Marks Debenhams John Lewis Matalan or a shopping outlet and begin to get an idea what looks best on me ...

for this occasion I’d not risk my money on line but get into city shops and get trying stuff on ... could be cheaper in the end !!

Last year M&S had linen shirts which made excellent simple jackets.

cc Mon 11-Mar-19 14:25:30

I'd recommend Coast. Their shops are gone but they're still in department stores. I'm size 16-18 and find the styles and sizing great though obviously not all their styles suit larger women.

Theoddbird Mon 11-Mar-19 14:14:54

Maybe a dress with an unstructured loose jacket would work. I am being mother of the bridegroom in the summer. I told my son I would wear something very bohemian befitting my narrow boat lifestyle. And yes I have found a gorgeous Italian linen lagenlook style dress and coat from an eBay shop. I love it. Totally me. Bought shoes petticoat and bag on eBay as well.

Boundary mill , worth a day trip if you don't have one close by . Loads of designer wedding outfits vastly discounted , hats underwear shoes and a café there's lots of well known brands under one roof.

deanswaydolly Mon 11-Mar-19 13:51:37

Definitely try Roman Originals x

marionk Mon 11-Mar-19 13:45:08

Definitely a vote for Chesca here, really beautiful floaty dresses and separates with fine chiffon long sleeved jackets/shrugs
