Help, calm me. House buying and selling stress

I have a bad stress headache today, never normally get headaches. I am buying a new house before selling my own, at least that was the plan. There has been a buying hold up, caused by waiting for sight of an important document. All in all 3 months has turned to 8 months. Just waiting for one document, which was `in the post` to nhbc

My buyer, february viewings, is starting to lay on the pressure. I had 25 extra and difficult questions to answer yesterday, some relating to building planning dating back to 6 years before we moved in, a new build.

The whole idea was that I would complete on my new home and move in stress-free, a bit at a time. I will definitely not move to rented. I had a string of people wanting to buy my property and will delay my buyer if needed

The stress is awful, widowed, doing it all myself and even with a good solicitor, I am churning up inside after yesterday`s questions

mw I certainly wouldn't provide your EA with the quote information at this stage. Just have it to hand if buyers come out with ridiculously silly offers due to the work needed. We have never tried to renegotiate the price on a property after the survey. As long as the place wasn't falling down or full of asbestos we were happy to proceed. We even bought a house where the planning was a suspect issue and it didn't stop the next people purchasing it either when the problem was flagged up.

I'm so far behind with Poldark due to the move. I'll have to catch up one rainy afternoon. Enjoy tonight's episode.

Hope your health improves soon Franbern.

MW, I have a wonderful zester I think I purchased inLakeland ages ago. It is very easy to use, and all the zests goes directly into its own container. When I zest a small lemon,. never have to worry about scraping my fingers and get an amazing amount of zest.
I would love to be at the stage of really trying to find removers, or even better, stage of post move. At present I am waiting with almost bated breath to see if my would-be purchasers have any comments about their private survey, and if they will try to renegotiate the price on the basis of that. Will give it to Thursday then ring my EA to see if they have heard anything.
My current health issues have almost provided a welcome change from worrying about his move. I would love it to happen, but if the sale falls through do not feel I have the energy to start yet again.
The only time I ever felt really, really lonely was many years back when i was actually with a large group of people and isolated from them. Living by myself I can do exactly as I want, when I want.
These BH days I am on cat duty for my daughter who lives near me who is visiting her sister in Somerset. The very hot weather, makes me quite pleased that there is no-one else here with me as I am spending a lot of each afternoon sleeping.

similar here mosaics, alone and not wanting to be alone. I went to lidl to start the day, for some treats as it is a bank holday. I have been awful physically busy for a few days, so much that my arms and hands were throbbing in bed but keeping so busy with a good end result is what keeps me going day on day. All too easy to let life slip by in a haze of loneliness. I won`t let it, will keep at my garden, which I am now filling with plants and when it is done then I will go on holidays in the months when I don`t have to water. This being widowed is blooming hard in spite of many of us just getting on with it, as you do

Ellianne Mon 26-Aug-19 13:31:08

Hang on in there Movers. It will happen for you all! Keep posting.

mosaicwarts Mon 26-Aug-19 13:10:41

Cor, zesting an orange with a zester scraper is hard work isn't it! I got juice in my eye, in my hair - and after 15 minutes of solid concentration got such a small amount wonder if it was worth it! Did the second one with the grater, and it was all stuck on it, holes were too fine sad Will buy a super sharp zester thing for future orange cakes! Cake out now cooling, just about to ice it and put the choc orange on.

Ellianne, that's hard only having a collection every three weeks. My bin pongs to high heaven after this hot weather, we are green bins for rubbish, fortnightly collection on rotation with recycling. Do you have a compost area out the back for veg peelings/coffe grounds/egg shells etc? My friend in Ireland had to burn her rubbish as no-one would travel down her mile long 'boreen'.

Talking of rubbish, I'm feeling pretty rubbish today. I can smell people's barbeques and feel very lonely, but if they had invited me, I wouldn't want to go on my own anyway. Contrary Mary! I couldn't face the party last night, just the thought of being dragged up to dance really scared me off.

I had a good chat with my best friend in London today, she said not to provide the EA with all the quote/survey information, but to give them ball park figures. I'll get the three roof quotes and average them out, it all depends who the new owners choose. Had a nice text from the second sash window specialist saying he's away in Tunisia, he'll be back in touch early next week. She told me to stop worrying and to keep going, it would be ridiculous for me to stay and get the work done, I don't have the funds to maintain the house and my oil bill is crippling on my small pension.

Last Poldark tonight! What will I do with myself!!

Nannytopsy Mon 26-Aug-19 10:15:42

I just can’t wait to get to the point where you are Ellianne!

Ellianne Mon 26-Aug-19 10:02:54

Good idea mw to have the board removed. If the EA is doing his job properly and advertising the property on a good website then that should be enough. Hope the window quote isn't too daunting.
Sorry to hear about the stables but glad to hear all the horses are safe.

Have a good Monday everyone. We're still fixing bits in our new place, then a dog walk and some gardening.
Also trying to cram the black bin as full as possible. It's only collected once every three weeks here whereas it was every week in London (identical council tax paid!).

mosaicwarts Mon 26-Aug-19 08:17:10

Have a good BH Monday everyone, I dont' have any plans, just making a cake and walking the dog on the beach.

I wrote to the EA last night and said I found it unsettling to find people in my drive, and asked them to take the board away. I feel full of fear about receiving the window renovation quote, should be with me during the week sad

I feel so upset a local stable, in a lovely village nearby, has been burnt to the ground by vandals. Luckily the horses were out in the field. The owner had saved for years and years to build it - there seems to be so much mindless vandalism lately.

Don't forget your sun cream!

Thinking of you Nannytopsy, so sorry you are being put through this stres. Fingers crossed for Tuesday.

Ellianne Sun 25-Aug-19 21:46:54

Nannytopsy that feeling of frustration and helplessness is awful. Fingers crossed things will pick up quickly on Tuesday.

craftyone Sun 25-Aug-19 21:06:41

oh no nanytopsy, I wasn`t expecting that, awful shoddy solicitor and should never have happened

Mosaics I never had a board, they are not needed these days with rightmove

Those were the days Rubysong, fit and active, a bit different from those of us who are over 70 and widowed. Well done anyway, we did it once and said never again

midgey Sun 25-Aug-19 20:02:44

Oh Nannytopsy what a nightmare.flowers

rubysong Sun 25-Aug-19 19:40:10

Regarding removals. I know this wouldn't do for everyone but both DH and I are fit and active and as we were only moving across the village and our home was down a narrow steep lane (no chance of a removal van) we did most of it ourselves. In the village is a storage facility and we rented two shipping containers for a couple of months. We ferried lots of boxes of stuff up the hill to the containers and at the very end we had 'man and van' x 2 to put large furniture in the container. The final night we slept on the mattress on the floor and in the morning it was put on a friend's boat/trailer which he took up to his home and brought it to us in the new place once man and van had brought the bed base. By the end of moving day we had almost everything on the premises. The garage was full of boxes, which we enjoyed over the next few months. It wasn't stressful, just very very hard work. Nothing was damaged and it cost very little.

Nannytopsy Sun 25-Aug-19 19:29:13

Well, we didn’t exchange on Friday and our solicitors have caused confusion with the vendor’s solicitor. It is bank holiday and we need to go on Wednesday 4th as we go to France on 6th. I will admit to being distraught on Friday!
???

Ellianne Sun 25-Aug-19 19:17:43

Boards are funny things mw. I think they are useful if you live in a busy area because they attract potential viewers who happen to pass by. If you live in a rural, isolated place however I can't see they're a lot of help and might attract nosey parkers as you say. The agents often gain more from having a board up than the vendors so you might find you have to insist to get it taken away.

mosaicwarts Sun 25-Aug-19 15:47:21

Just coming on to have a moan, yet again I've come home to someone sitting in their car in my drive (it's a semicircle). As I've indicated to come in they've shot off without any acknowledgement. Neither of them looked like potential viewers, just nosey parkers.

I might get the board taken down, I didn't have one with the other agent.

Luckygirl Sat 24-Aug-19 09:41:20

It is so hard to find good removers - and they are so very expensive. Looks like the most expensive have let you down - you do not need this on top of the general moving stress.

I have in general used local removers - not perfect but at least I have paid a reasonable amount for that imperfection.

What a stress it all is.

Ellianne Sat 24-Aug-19 09:35:14

Glad to hear your daughter is on the case with Pickfords Whiff, though any compensation won't really make up for all the upset. I think someone used the word "disrespectful" and that's exactly how it feels. We had some quality canvas paintings and a family photo in canvas which, because they weren't glass, were just thrown in a box unwrapped. We now discover a couple of them have scuff marks where they rubbed against each other, but what can you do?

Anyway, have a nice weekend everyone, enjoy the anniversary party mw. It's important to take one's mind off the stresses of moving.

Whiff Fri 23-Aug-19 21:39:36

Mosaicwarts my daughter has taken it on as a mission to make Pickfords pay. What is so annoying is the fact the men who emptied my old house where so caring and thoughtful but this lot just awful. Have a great time at the party.

mosaicwarts Fri 23-Aug-19 21:12:52

I had a sneeky peek at the Pickfords reviews Whiff - lots and lots of 1* from very upset customers. I'm sorry you've found more broken things, the men sound like complete rissoles, how do you lose a big dressing table mirror? I can understand the bed bar as it might have become separated from the bed, but a freestanding table mirror?
Do your claim quickly, it has to be within 7 days, and that is the 7 days Monday to Sunday, not just the working week.
Sorry it's happened, it's outrageous, but seems to happen a lot sad

Hope nice things happen for everyone this BH. I've been invited to a friend's 30ieth wedding anniversary party on Sunday night, 80's theme. I won't be dressing up because I'm a misery and didn't get organised in time, but I'm looking forward to seeing the others. I must remember to buy a bottle of wine tomorrow.

Off to eat the rest of the brownies and watch some trashy tv, see you soon x

Whiff Fri 23-Aug-19 19:31:22

Thank you all for your support. Found 2 more boxes broken they had hidden them in the garage. Also my dressing table mirror and stand is missing. No sign anywhere of it or the missing bar. My daughter has sent further emails with photos. All my bedroom furniture is over 20+ yrs old it is pine by the Cotswold company. I have looked on their site but don't make anything the same. I will get in touch with them and see if they have any spare parts that would fix the bed and how much. Then I will be claiming that back plus loss of the mirror and broken boxes plus distress it has caused me. I took out insurance hoping I would not have to claim. I am going on the removals thread . Also as Craftyone suggests taking it further. I was hoping to move in tomorrow but that's not going to happen as the bed can't be slept on.
Yesterday I was very upset today I am very angry.
Hope everyone has a good bank holiday.

mosaicwarts Fri 23-Aug-19 09:11:16

So sorry Whiff, I feel very angry on your behalf and I'm giving those men a huge kick up the bum, their mothers would be so ashamed of them. Not wearing your blue shoe covers was so disrespectful, it is obvious your carpet was brand new. Write those honest reviews and save others from similar distress. Keeping my fingers crossed your bed bar is found soonest. Big hugs x.

Ellianne Fri 23-Aug-19 08:27:26

Oh Whiff I'm so sorry, that's awful for you. I cannot comment in the service Pickfords WOULD HAVE provided because they let us down at the last minute and were very unhelpful, but I would never recommend them now. Like craftyone says, it's time we made public comments to express our disappointment and she has done an amazing job at giving so much information for you to act. I also will voice my disgust on the removals thread.
The trouble is Whiff the deed is done and there's not much you can do about it now other than pick yourself up and dust yourself off. The bed part is obviously very very upsetting. Are you sure it isn't tucked inside something? Fingers crossed it will turn up. Please take deep breaths, I promise you it will get a bit better, and that was so nice of the IKEA man to restore your faith.

craftyone Fri 23-Aug-19 07:13:42

also whiff, put a one star review on here, dig out an identifying number for your own move and you will get a very quick resonse
www.trustpilot.com/review/pickfords.co.uk

Do the same with google reviews. It won`t take you long and it sounds as though it was that particular local branch that was so poor. Management will sort it out but you have to be a bit pro-active and not let this go

craftyone Fri 23-Aug-19 07:05:37

whiff, pickfords of all people, absolutely shocking and appalling. Time to get writing, the same printed typed letter to each person and also to head office. I have all the address details here. Don`t let it rest. Start a file. I know you could do without it but people choose pickfords because they are supposed to be good and at this stage you should be feeling happy and upbeat. Pickfords have wrecked all that and more

beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/05025126/officers

also send in a strong letter of complaint to here

bar.co.uk/

Then go onto the removals thread and keep on telling people about pickfords. Get as public as you can. They need to make amends fast and search to find that bar, which they obviously lost
