The other day I left some apple stewing and forgot about it! Result big soup pot with non stick coating blackened! I have scrubbed some off and left it to soak with bicarb of soda. Still only partially clean. Any advice/ suggestions please? Would stewing rhubarb in it work??

I just use oven cleaning gel - smear it on, leave and hour, and the very toughest black burned stuff just rinses off.

Of course that's no doubt 'ecologically unsafe' but I've found the gentler things don't work when I've forgotten a pan and its contents have turned into Devil's concrete.

Works on ovens as well grin

I would try boiling with water and washing up liquid if it was a stainless steel pan, but if it had a non-stick coating I would put it in the metal recycling bin.

[https://www.lakeland.co.uk/8904/Wash-Up-Wiz-Net-Scourer this]] is the scourer recommended up-thread by david. I've recommended this before and probably will again. They last me for months if not years and to keep them clean, I pop them in the dishwasher.

Swear by soda crystals

I boil the dish cloth in the burnt pan using ordinary washing powder....two jobs in one!

I use soda Crystals and vinegar, it worked a treat when I burnt a pan the other week. Just sprinkle in the soda add vinegar it fizzes and leave for a while, then wash with washing up liquid, you may need a scourer if there are really tough bits.Let us know which method works for you.

I do as stella1949 said. Use dishwasher powder.

I didn’t find Coke cleaned a loo - I tried it and ended up with a horrid brown bowl!

Aepgirl Wed 01-May-19 13:55:29

Try boiling it with Vanish powder, then let it cool, then wash as normal.

Shortlegs Wed 01-May-19 11:57:54

Pitch it. Buy a new one.

tigger Wed 01-May-19 11:49:00

Salt, cover the burnt part in salt and leave for 24 hours.

Sulis Wed 01-May-19 11:42:34

Get a new pan? Burnt stuff is carcinogenic.

I've never tried coca cola, but remember that it dissolved sheep's teeth (school experiment), so might work on burnt saucepan.

I boil up a mix of cheap vinegar and water. Let it boil a bit. Turn off and allow to cool in pan.

I use a mix of biological washing gel and bleach. Always worked so far.

It looks as if somehow, Mumofmadboys, you will rescue your big pot!

David1968 Wed 01-May-19 10:37:08

Definitely a soak job. I use water with a generous squirt of washing up liquid. For cleaning non-stick I always use a "cloth" called a "Whiz". Available from Lakeland Ltd. Not cheap but lasts for ages (ignore what it says on the packet about lasting three months!).

I find that soaking with a bio washing powder solution and the scrubbing with a stainless steel scrubber works every time. You can get these scrourers in packs of 6 for about £1 and , unlike Brillo type pads, they don't rust so last ages.

I also use biological washing powder, I make a solution with hot water and then put it outside (to get rid of burnt smell) for a night to soak. Has always done the trick so far! Bio washing powder is also brilliant for stained or greasy sinks and loos. It breaks down quickly, so is kinder to the environment than stronger chemicals, being mainly sodium carbonate.

Does one boil the coke and lemon juice or just leave it in the pan?

I am aware that coke cleans a loo like magic so heaven knows what it does to a stomach.

sazz1 Wed 01-May-19 09:58:22

I use biological washing powder heat up then leave overnight

ctussaud Wed 01-May-19 09:57:09

Put a out 1 inch of water into the pan, then add some powder soaking solution such as Vanish, or supermarkets’ own brand. You may still need to scrub a bit but it won’t be such hard work!

mumofmadboys Wed 01-May-19 09:56:20

Thanks all. Will try these suggestions and let you know how I get on!
