Spring cleaning.

I've gone against carpet as it seems to collect stains and germs and debris that lurks deeper than suction can clean.

No to spring cleaning. Have a weekly routine and (possibly sad to some) put on calendar when extra cleaning chores are done. Have promised DH that when I don't feel I want to do major cleaning any more I'll get a cleaning company in once or twice a year.

If you are going to deep clean at any time of the year, save your pennies and have your oven cleaned for you.

It used to be that I relaxed having my hair done now I relax when someone else cleans my oven far better than I could - and for about the same price.

Have a cleaner once a week with an hour to spare. To tackle deep cleaning..best few bob I have ever spent. House is spotless way above what I could do and our free time is priceless. Took awhile to convince dh but now delighted with it all.

Spring is for gardening! Cleaning is for wet winter days. But I clean the oven after every use - takes minutes that way and I can always see through the door! The oven shelves and shelf supports go in the dishwasher weekly.

Don't really spring clean, clean as things need doing.
Dust and vac once a week, hubby as started doing this.
Wipe down shower and tiles when used
Use home pride on oven when needed.
Wipe kitchen worktops, hob and sink daily.
Most pots and cutlery goes in dishwasher.
Wipe kitchen doors occasionally, takes at most 15 minutes.
Never leave dinner plates till next day.
Clean hard wood floors every one to two weeks.
Clean kitchen and bathroom floor weekly.
Clean toilets when needed.
Windows have window cleaner he also cleans the insides.
Drawers get sorted and cleaned when dirty.
Kitchen cupboards cleaned when they look dirty.
Window frames and woodwork get washed when I think about it.
House is tidy, I put things away when finished with them takes a matter of minutes.
Leaving things to pile up takes hours to sort them I consider that a complete waste of time.
I don't like cleaning but I couldn't stand living in a mess with things everywhere.
I think everyone as their own standards and I live to mine. Live by your own standards not other peoples.
I once worked with a lady who cleaned everything daily in her home, even the doors and skirting boards. She got up early in the morning to be able to a achieve this.

I never spring clean. Clean something when it needs it.

Vacuum every couple of days

Best buy was a small triangular microfibre mop bought in Home Bargains for about £3. The microfibre pad comes off and goes into the washing machine every couple of weeks. It lives in the airing cupboard and each morning I sprinkle a little Zoflora on the bathroom floor tiles and use the mop. Towel buffs off the wash hand basin and taps and shower tray. Rubber blade wipes the shower cubicle and glass after each shower. Give the toilet a quick once over. All takes about 5 minutes.and bathroom is always sparkling.

Always use Toilet Bloo in the cistern and toilet looks pristine.

I used to 'Spring Clean' for Christmas! Everything in the house - from cooker to curtains to cupboards - was thoroughly washed and cleaned. It exhausted me then, but now just the thought of it exhausts me! And I've had to set my sights lower.

It saddens me that I can't be my forty-year-old self. Just keep trying to get through my 'Jobs List'.

I do same as Lilypollen- mark on calendar when we have vacuuumed all the corners cleaned wall tiles in bathroom etc. It's a good idea.

Not everyone can afford a cleaner. Could the family help out Bopeep14?
We all used to meet up and do a big clean for mum.

pheonix what a great idea. I remember when young, I would do a full days work then go home and spend 2 hours cleaning - every evening.

I find cleaning therapeutic, nice sense of satisfaction when its done. I have found that in the last year or so I've slowed up and don't fit so much into a day.

I do spring cleaning, all my friends think I'm mad ! But I do start at the beginning of march , when it's still cool, can't be bothered when it's warm( too many hot flushes ) I love that satisfied feeling when it's all done, it takes about a month.I have the last laugh when I can forget about housework all summer, apart from dusting and vacuuming wiping around, until Oct when I have another good clean .

We had a cleaner for years, I used to complain about her, because she seemed to think she was in charge, always rearranging things, and doing things that weren’t expected of her, but she was fantastic, the house was always spotless, even if I could never find anything!

She moved away to be nearer her family, and try as I might, I haven’t been able to replace her , so now all my Saturdays are spent cleaning!

I hate it!

I thought it dated back to pre central heating days - messy coal fires, etc.

A ' good clean' for me, means putting my glasses on so I can at least see the dust. Usually gets done more than superficially only when guests are coming to stay, even when I know they're the type not to give a hoot.

Major blitz next week, then, since relatives of dh who I hardly know are coming to stay. ?Very tempted to book myself a mini break somewhere and leave him to it but will as usual grin (or at least smile nicely) and bear it.

I clean in two circumstances: if we're having visitors and when somewhere gets too dirty for me to ignore it. I can always find something more interesting to do. Having said that, I've just given the fridge a thorough clean out.

Was it Mole who said, "Hang spring cleaning"? A bit of dust won't hurt and I clean up as and when.

Spring clean? What's that? If it looks muckier than usual [cats & kids] then out comes the vacuum cleaner. If it looks dusty but the sun ain't shining to show it up, I leave it and do something more interesting. Life is too short. That said I do enjoy visiting other people's homes - they seem much cleaner and tidier than mine. DH is NOT the tidiest person in the world but I knew that 50 years ago!!! Each to their own I guess

I've cleaned out all the kitchen drawers and cupboards, getting rid of lots of clutter and unused items from the cupboard where tins, sauces etc are stored. Made lots of space all over.

Also cleaned a living room cupboard, next the bathroom cabinets.

Will also tackle some of the units in the bedroom, but taking it all quite slowly. Even if it lasts till next Spring!

I once had 2 signs in my house , the first one was from my Nan and said ‘Dull women have immaculate houses’ and the 2nd one was in the bathroom and said ‘ this is a self cleaning bathroom ...... clean it yourself ! ‘
