Yes I’m a southern softy but I put an extra jumper on and it’s still freezing so on goes the heating. Bliss!
Anyone else admitting to this ?

Last couple of days - Midlothian. Temp 4 to 6 degrees in morning and had to scrape ice off windscreen last 2 mornings. Yes on for an hour or two at night.

Tried to hold out before putting our heating on but succumbed today. Now waiting for the coughing and sneezing to start. We always seem to get coughs and colds once we put ours on.

I’m back out there in 3 weeks GillT so I’ll miss Hallowe’en, Bonfire Night and the end of BST - we are away all November till 12 Dec so I hope to stay warm!

Namsnanny Thu 03-Oct-19 22:05:16

Yes!! 2 hours last night.

maddyone Thu 03-Oct-19 22:05:36

Yes the heating is on. I’ve just returned from southern Italy where on our last day it was 30 degrees. Needless to say, the heating went on immediately we walked into the house. That was yesterday, and it was 8 degrees outside as we drove back from the airport. No wonder the heating went on straight away.

We put ours on this morning, when I left the house at 8.30 the car thermostat said 4 degrees!

gillybob Thu 03-Oct-19 22:36:40

Well that’s the North South divide for you isn’t it? grin maybe we in the frozen North should get a government cold allowance . (Joke)

gillybob Thu 03-Oct-19 22:37:49

How lovely it must be to go somewhere where you are almost guaranteed to be warm for a while every year .

Urmstongran Thu 03-Oct-19 22:58:27

It is gillybob ... it’s wonderful. And anyone who owns a house mortgage free can do the same as us if they chose to.

We are not at all wealthy. We just sold the house and downsized to two small apartments. Lock up, quite safe, no fear of a break in at either end - and go!

gillybob Thu 03-Oct-19 23:04:42

How truly lovely Urmstongran good for you I say. Living here in the NE I’ve almost forgotten what warm feels like .

I really love hearing about your travels in and around Malaga smile

Put it on occasionally in the mornings for a couple of hours if it feels chilly. By next month it will be every morning! Evenings I can cope with at the moment, I just put a thick cardi on. And it will soon be time for the winter duvet.
Heating went on this evening though when I came home tonight from being in a cold building all day! And it was the first day when I felt in need of a winter coat, with frost this morning.
Although I must say my house rarely drops below 20 even in winter, must be well insulated. If my thermostat was set to 16 or 18 my heating would never come on! Really cold nights and I put the fire on in the sitting room.

I've had a high temperature so until yesterday I had the windows open, but today my new medication is working and my temperature is almost normal so I really felt the cold. On went the heating and the sitting room window stayed closed all day, but I like a cold bedroom so that window is still open.

Oh yes its on - my feet were freezing yesterday. Thank heavens for Octopus running this 4 bed house electricity and gas is £100 a month which is reasonsable - I have to be warm or I just seize up all over. DH sits around in a tee shirt.

harrigran Fri 04-Oct-19 09:34:53

My heating is on 24/7 controlled by the thermostat set at 22 degrees. The bedrooms and study have thermostats on the radiators so they operate at a lower level than lounges and bathrooms.

Mapleleaf Fri 04-Oct-19 09:42:14

Ours operates with a thermostat and timer, so comes on by itself if it’s cool enough at those set times. It’s been cool enough this week, so yes, I’ve had my CH on in the morning and later in the evening when the temperature has dropped enough. There’s a boost option, too, should it drop cooler between those set times, if I need to put the heating on then, though I’ve not needed to do that just yet, thank goodness!

Pantglas2 Fri 04-Oct-19 09:47:21

Not yet but I have got the gas fire on. Have no problem putting CH on any time of year - won’t be cold in my own home.

Daisymae Fri 04-Oct-19 09:48:45

Yes! Central thermostat set at 22. Sometimes whack it up a bit at night but have a throw in the evenings which I highly recommend.

JaneA Fri 04-Oct-19 10:31:38

Same as Daisymae When it needs to come on it does.

Guineagirl Fri 04-Oct-19 10:33:01

Yes for an hour morning and evening otherwise condensation rears it’s head

jaylucy Fri 04-Oct-19 10:37:08

Caved in last night and put it on once the sun had gone down!
I was determined to try not to as long as I could, but for the past few nights, my legs and feet have been freezing when I have gone to bed despite sheepskin slippers. It takes me ages to get to sleep then .
Might even put my winter weight quilt on the bed this weekend!

Riggie Fri 04-Oct-19 10:37:14

Yes. Its been in a week!! DH went to put an hour on but pressed the wrong button so its on timer. Lovely

TrendyNannie6 Fri 04-Oct-19 10:37:56

Yep ours is set to 20 so when the temp drops it kicks in as it has for last few days

Rosina Fri 04-Oct-19 10:39:43

I came home yesterday and the house seemed as dank and cold as the day outside - so on went the heating. Well - you are told to check it before the winter, I believe? I switched it off after a couple of hours, but it did make all the difference. I do like a separate gas fire as that is so handy if the evenings are chilly and you don't want the whole system roaring away.

henetha Fri 04-Oct-19 10:47:47

I did put the central heating on yesterday as it was so cold and dank in here.... but I've turned it off again this morning as it's sunny and milder.

I am really lucky, since I returned from Egypt 6 years ago and moved into this sheltered flat I have never used any heating. I am on 1st floor so have flats either side, one below and 2 above , I have put on a cardigan from time to time. Today I have my windows open a little and I am wearing a tshirt and not even chilly. My daughters house is freezing really freezing but she is on a corner so has 3 exposed walls.
