That's annoying about the person putting your IKEA stuff together Franbern. Hope the family sorts it for you. I had John Lewis bunk beds delivered for the GC and it took the man 3 hours to assemble. They were very solid.

Good luck mw, we all have our fingers crossed so let us know how you get on. We told the landlord our dogs would stay downstairs and when he came back to check the house a couple of weeks later we kept them in the garden room and he looked in through the patio window!

Whiff my uncle and aunt went to New Zealand in 1950 ish. My uncle was a GP and my aunt a midwife. They had their own practice and he was very much the country doctor who dealt with everything. My aunt was less happy because she missed family in the UK but she ran parenting groups and helped the Red Cross to keep herself busy. We nearly applied to move over in 1998 but our teenage daughter locked herself in a pub toilet and refused to come out until we said we would reconsider!

Oh Liljan that all sounds very familiar and why is it always at the last minute? The same happened to us when we bought in London, all over the signing off the extension. In the end it was the council's approval letter which saved the day although there was an added delay. When we later sold the house the same issue was picked up again, but waving the council document at the buyer's solicitor seemed to do the trick. Good luck.

I've just come on to feedback about the cottage - it's mine on 7 February. I've had a cry in private, it doesn't seem real but it is. My daughter and I loved it. It's two bed and seems very small to me, but anything will be compared to my house, I have to adapt. First thing that can't come is my trusty double freezer, but I'm sure someone will give it a home. The front garden is completely private for my dog, and there is another grassy garden behind our garage across the 'road' which runs behind the row of cottages. The garage doesn't have electricity and has a metal roof, he said they do get condensation in there. All white goods are staying, bills are £200 a month, so my six month outlay will be an additional £4,800. My biggest worry is my cat going home to our house, I'll keep her in for a month when we move in. At least I'll know where to find her if she doesn't come home.

That's brilliant news Mosaicwarts. It sounds ideal for what you need for temporary accommodation. Just think, when you move to your new permanent home how large and spacious it will seem after the cosy cottage. It sounds as if the new year is starting well for you.

I am very happy for you mosaics, it sounds perfect and a good interim home. The garage gets condensation, easily remedied if you put a de-humidifier in there, yes extra expense but it will keep your belongings in good condition. You have been brave and bitten the bullet, we are proud of you

Thanks for all your good wishes everyone, it is a huge step for me. Unfortunately no electric in the garage craftyone, I was hoping but sadly no. I've got things in my shed downstairs I haven't looked at for a very long time including my husband's golf clubs, I hope they aren't mildewed.

Have just got back from a very sunny beach and the weather has turned already, I feel sorry for the walker I met who was aiming for the pub and a bowl of soup!

I'm going to attack my christmas chocolates now, and do the agency 'letting' pack they've emailed me.

EllianneYour experience could be ours and exactly why we need the relevant certificates/documentation as this is not our forever home..we probably have one more move to go and like you say, we too want to be able to wave the documents at the next buyers Solicitor!

Ikea bookcase all sorted out - man did come, just a bit later than he was supposed to. Means all my books are now unpacked and have more storage area. Once the wardrobes get done in four weleks time I will be able to dispense with final boxes.
So horrible to learn of people in that stressful place not really knowing where they will be living. Like others here , Liljan, all I can do is to hope, on your behalf, that there is a speedy and successful outcome.
Have discovered that it seems to be much easier down here to sell second hand things, than it did in London. Yesterday I put my nearly new larder freezer on Gumtree, and someone came to collect it, paying amount I asked, within a couple of hours. Today, same thing happened with two small bookcases.

That's good news about the rental mosaics we'll all sleep better now including you!

It's like when you are travelling. We were getting off a train in Cornwall and the announcer said the platform wasn't long enough so passengers were to get to coach B and C or whatever.
We were panicking and scrambling along the train with our luggage and met the conductor who said "don't worry, I wont let the train go before you have found the platform" and he guided us carefully to the right place before we had heart attacks.

Thanks all, I had an awful couple of hours 'uploading' documents to the website for identification, proving my finances and referencing. Photographing your passport flat is really difficult! For some reason the TSB only let you export statements in CSV format, which they didn't accept, so had to faff around going on line, printing them off, photographing them, resizing and uploading. After a few hours I'd finished, checked through, and submitted - blow me down it seems somehow by mistake I'd pushed the 'on' slidey button for being a smoker. Give me strength! Keep your fingers crossed I'm not rejected because of it, I rang the office straight away and told them. No way of contacting the on line referencing people.

I haven't done anything else tonight except eat and watch tv, while I think about what stays and what goes. It's so hard unravelling your life, isn't it, as a youngster 'moving' flats I only had clothes. I'll be ordering the boxes tomorrow, and writing lots of lists, which I can tick off. The good thing is I don't have to move out on one day, I'll have weeks to do it. The man of the couple in the rented cottage was really nice and said to pop down anytime if I have any questions - isn't it awful, I can't remember his name! They both said when they mentioned where they lived people asked if they knew me. My daughter and I were a bit surprised, but it's the house being a landmark really, not me inside it.

At least the woodburner is behaving, I've found a new way of lighting it, top downwards, it's burning really well thankfully.

Well we're finally alone in our new house! DS2 and DD and DGD age 5 all left today. So far since we moved in we have had 2 all day visits from DS1 DIL and 2 GC, 2 sister's and a niece overnight, DD and DGD for about 3 weeks going home for a few days now and again, DS2 for 2 weekends and 2 weeks over Xmas and New Year. Forgot DD brought her 2 guinea pigs as well. Also 3 visits from neighbours, DS2s friend visited, our friends from the caravan site visited, and 2 people to see the puppies, 1 is now reserved. So busy here so not unpacked properly yet. Wardrobe doors and track arrived today so DH can get on with making fitted wardrobes now we have some space. Have 3 more people coming to see the puppies tomorrow so fingers crossed they all want one and have suitable homes. So expensive breeding pedegree dogs it's cost me over 1k already for stud fee, 2 home visits from vet, special food for pups, KC reg etc. and still have to pay for microchip and vaccinations for each one. I'm keeping one myself.

OH has a bad cough and cold so can't see much getting done for the next few days. I'm just ploughing through the washing and housework as nothing got done over Xmas and New Year.

Sazzl you have been busy. Just take a few minutes and take your time doing anything in your new home. You and your husband have the rest of your lives make it your nest. I know I should have taken it easier getting things done here but if I decide to do something I like to get on with it. Unfortunately due to my health I can't do something's myself anymore. But that is not going to stop me doing what I can.

Now my 2 sisters in different parts of WA (australia), their areas have become yellow very high risk. Sometimes everything seems so transient, we do the best we can but nature always has the upper hand. Its a pity we cannot just press a switch to detatch us completely from stress.

sazz1 you sound like you need some quiet time to relax, though it's not easy with puppies. Is it really £1k for stud fees? I rather fancy renting my boy out for that price! DD and SiL have just paid £1500 for a pup, but it doesn't stop there as they've now spent an extra £500 on crate, pen, webcam, leads, toys, bowls, food, vaccinations, worming, etc. etc. Expensive business, dogs!

Hello sazzl I'm glad you have had such a marvellous time with your family, I hope your husband's cold clears up soon. I think I'm getting one too, I was washing up and felt as though I was having a 'hot flush' - thankfully those days are behind me!

Craftyone I'm so sorry your sisters have now been assigned yellow, I am glad the government have finally stepped up to the plate. I hope they stay safe.

I've been feeling really panicky today, but remembered the advice on how to eat an elephant so broke down my tasks into more manageable chunks. I do have a week before the removal company come to decide what I want moved into the cottage, and the few items I want taken into storage can wait. I concentrated on upstairs today and feel happy with my 'draft' - doing downstairs tomorrow.

I haven’t posted in ages but I am glad you have made such progress Mw. We moved 4 months ago and have had streams of visitors. Every bed was full between Christmas and New Year, despite some rooms still having piles of boxes. We have another couple coming tonight. The builders will be back shortly to finish the the dining room and then we can get fully unpacked.
We still have lots of stuff to get rid of, despite so much going beforehand.

Mosaicwarts I know you will be busy sorting but remember to have a rest in between and have plenty of drinks. When you have a million and one things to do the basics of life sometimes get forgotten. Just think how lovely it will be in the cottage . I know you still have the worry of selling your home but you will soon. I think your husband would be pleased with you moving. We take our memories with us. I know for me I don't miss my old house one bit. When I accepted the first offer on my house I had mentally let it go. Not easy but it's only bricks and mortar.

Craftyone hope your sisters are safe. It must be a big worry of all the family. My daughter in laws brother and sister live just outside Sydney.

We had been in our previous house for 34 years when we sold it. When we accepted an offer and I told my neighbour that the house was sold she asked me how I felt. The only word that accurately described my feelings was "gutted"!

I thought that the actual moving day would be traumatic but once the removal van was loaded and had departed it was no longer my home, just an empty shell. I did go round the house and bid a goodby to each room before we locked up and left but then the excitement of the new house took over. I pass our old house often on visits to Glasgow but home is definitely London now.
