Chipped plates

Chipped or cracked mugs and cups get binned immediately. I recently replaced some chipped breakfast bowls, and I have a couple of tea plates which have a very tiny chip on the rim, so these will be replaced at some point.

They all get washed in the dishwasher, so I'm not worried on the cleanliness front, but I just hate the look of them!

I like to think I’m as worthy as my guests to have chip-free crockery!

Dump them.

Straight in the bin.

Chuck them.

I discard chipped crockery. My charity shop accepts such items as they are collected and sent abroad.

I must admit if I see any chips on mugs plates or dishes I do replace them, it doesn’t seem to happen as much nowadays though

Now I’m living alone I suppose the chipped ones don’t bother me as they’re washed in the dishwasher. I do have a nice set when I have guests. Nice to know everyone’s different.

I use them for the cat.

I was given coffee in a cracked mug once. I couldn't drink it so had to sneak into the kitchen to pour it down the sink!

I can't stand cracked or chipped mugs or cups. Dirt can lodge in them (until it dissolves in your hot tea) so they go straight in the bin. Plates are not so bad but I'll still throw them in case they have a sharp edge.

I replace chipped items straight away. My mother always said that germs lurk in the chips.

I now don’t think that’s true. I simply hate chipped crockery (my partner is quite heavy handed, bless him) and when we were younger and money was tight, we always continued to use any chipped items. Money isn’t exactly flowing now, but we can certainly replace chipped and cracked crockery.

Having said that, now we can afford to buy better quality crockery, it seems to chip less frequently.

I just ignore chips on crockery unless it makes the item unusable.

No, TB was not spread by using chipped crockery. Most chips are not usually where you put your mouth or even your food anyway. Chips normally occur on rims, bases and handles. I have yet to see a chip in the middle of a plate or even where you put your mouth on a cup or mug.

Everything I have gets washed in a dishwasher anyway.

I remember my granny telling me you had to get rid of anything with chips because that was how TB spread. Was there any truth in that??

I will eat off my own slightly flawed crockery but I won't give it to the rest of the family. I'm too cheap to replace everything straight away sadly!

MissAdventure Fri 17-Jan-20 18:26:58

I used to discard them straight away, but that's probably because my mum always did.

These days I just carry on using them until they're too bad.

I'm back to all odds and sods of crockery, too.

Noticed I have several in my cupboard including bowls, I do discard chipped mugs/cups but carry on using plates and bowls with small chips.
What do you do.
