Where is your kitchen situated?

I have been looking at my house with jaundiced eyes this morning having no energy to do much else.
My friends are downsizing, hugely, and say it is giving them a new lease of life.
This is not possible for me but I am tired of this one.

In our last home the kitchen was at the front of the house with an archway to the dining room.
I didn't have time then to "stand and stare" but now I do and I would love it.

Any of you have one and do you like it?

My kitchen overlooks the garden. I love watching the birds on the table and feeders. Also love to see my washing blowing on a windy sunny day. We are surrounded by other homes but have 6ft high fencing all round which gives us some privacy. There are plenty of trees and shrubs so lots of greenery for the birds to hide and nest in. Once i lived in a house with the kitchen at th front and i really loved that. People walking past, buses and cars on the road, kids playing on the pavement just yards from my window, including mine. Neighbours would wave as they walked pass if i was at the sink always something going on. Pros and cons to everything i guess.

I really must polish my specs, N&G. I thought you said the peasants stroll by. grin

My kitchen is at the back and is tiny in comparison to the one we downsized from . But what it lacks in size it makes up for in view .

It looks out over a sleeping garden and then rolls across the fields as far as the eye can see . The pheasants stroll by , a few days ago we watched 2 hares cavort right at the end of the garden and we often watch the tiny muntjac snaffling a plant or two .

I wouldn’t change it for the world .

My kitchen is at the back of the house. Nowhere are we overlooked but the views at the back are lovely, just fields, hedges and the hills with views of the Lake District in the far distance, spectacular when covered with snow!
We can only see one other house between us and there.

Quite a lot of birds come to feed in the garden and the back field but I only put hanging feeders up to discourage the cats.

Yes, kitchens to soulmates.

Sometimes when I watch the passers -by, I remind me of The Lady of Shalott.

Blimey, Mike, how did you make the leap from kitchens to soulmates?

My kitchen is at the side of the bungalow. I have a huge hallway to the front with lots of windows and the light floods in. The kitchen is to the left and door to the lounge to the right. My bedrooms and bathroom are all to the back

Thank you Hetty!

The alternative doesn't bear thinking about sad

My old cottage is one room deep, so the kitchen looks out to the front. So do all the other rooms except the bathroom.
Everyone walking along the road can see me washing up or cooking. If I want to do anything naughty, like licking my dinner plate, I step away from the window. I have got a pretty garden between me and the road.

arosebyanyothername, I was reading through quickly - and your post really made me laugh. I imagined you having 'a drink or wash in the bird bath'!

MadeInYorkshire, what a lovely cottage!

Previously in a 18th century farmhouse and kitchen on front overlooked the country road. Fairly quiet but interesting. Now at back and possibility of land at the back being built on so not a good look out.

From my kitchen sink position I can see a little green bordered by a public footpath that serves dog walkers and their dogs, young mums taking little ones to nursery school, primary school kids, secondary school kids, old people off the bus with shopping, young ladies who have been clothes shopping, old people who have been ordered by the doc to walk for exercise, in season people picking brambles, the local authority grass cutting machine and its rider, lone cats who mostly sit and stare, once I looked out late at night and saw by the street lighting a lone cat and a lone fox sitting six feet apart staring at each other.

MadeInYorkshire What a lovely kitchen and garden?

MadeInYorkshire Fri 07-Feb-20 12:35:32

Couldn't work out how to add more pics so done another post of my little garden in winter .....

MadeInYorkshire Fri 07-Feb-20 12:34:09

I love my cottage kitchen so much I sleep in it! (Can no longer manage a bed so have a recliner in there as it is the largest room I have) It is L shaped, the sink is in front of a side window looking out onto the lane beside the house and chair and table look out over the garden - if I don't have to move and one day have enough money I would love to open the end up to have double doors into the garden which would also let in more light - the walls are 18" thick and my windows are small, but I also have a skylight in the middle which is great but I wish it would open. I can sit with my computer and watch the birds feeding and see my tiny garden which actually looks pretty good all year round!

As I may have to move for financial reasons I have been looking at houses - the first one had a miniscule kitchen at the front of the house and a lounge at the back - I just couldn't imagine myself in it - the house was so small I would never get any of my stuff in it anyway sad so not too sure what to do going forwards yet - waiting for some stuff to get sorted, but stressful times ahead sadly .....

I like my kitchen which is at the back of the house. I can watch the birds coming down to feed and have a drink or wash in the bird bath.

Callistemon Fri 07-Feb-20 09:41:23

I probably spend more time at the table in there (doing word puzzles, on my tablet) than I do cooking!

Nanny41 Thu 06-Feb-20 22:03:13

We live in a bungalow with open plan living so the kitchen is all part of the living space, it is at the side of the house bt has views on three sides we overlook a lake and a stream. I love standing watching things going on in nature.Washing up is a joy, when the dishwasher isnt on,

Shizam Thu 06-Feb-20 22:02:11

KatyK doesn’t Birmingham have more canals than Venice? Or have I imagined that fact??

Chewbacca Thu 06-Feb-20 21:52:35

You're not wrong there Kartush; there are some days I feel as though my feet have been nailed to the floor of my kitchen! grin

Kartush Thu 06-Feb-20 21:49:24

You people spend an awful lot of time in your kitchens. Mine is in the back of my house, doesn’t lead to anywhere, has a couple of windows and I spend as little time as possible in it
